I am relatively new to Oregon and have drawn a controlled hunt elk tag for this fall. I was hoping to get some shooting practice on varmits. Any suggestions on areas would be very much appreciated.

I am not from Oregon, but a friend of mine use to have a ranch in the Kalamath Falls area. My daughter and I would get there once a year to shoot sage rats. It was easy to shoot a brick of 22 in a weekend. That was usually in May or June. It is my understanding that they den up during the hotter months.

Stephen, what part of Oregon is your tag for? It's usually too late for sage rats if you have tags for November to January. But depending on where you are going, the coyote hunting should be great.
