My new .45 Colt Trapper is in my hot hands now... bought from CDNN for $699... not a bad price for this item, even though it ain't cheap!

So far I've fired a coupe dozen rounds in my laundry room of 250 gr. Cowboy loads and .45 Colt JHP defense ammo through it... all without a hitch. Beautiful rifle, the action feels great right out of the box.

What I wasn't expecting is the figure in the rear stock... just like the Winchester website photo, mine has a ton of gorgeous figure in it. Winchester spec'd out this gun to be pretty special indeed. Sheesh... it's so beautiful, it may not see near the use my other Trappers will see. Oh well... they're a great rifle.

nrut,
Here's the CDNN url - http://www.cdnninvestments.com/. You can download their latest catalog though it is a large file and takes a long time if you're using dialup.

Nrut... well, only one bullet hole in the floor! Really! I decided to do a little chrony testing with my S&W 642 (double action only, 1/7/8" barrel revolver). needless to say, the accuracy required when chrony testing in one;s laundry room is of a higher standard than when at the range... I had one round just miss my fir round backstop and it went through the floor! Oh well. No big deal really. Needless to say, now I only chronograph weapons which I can control better than a double action snub nose revolver with a log and heavy trigger pull!

I have gone through three 16" fir rounds. They hold up really well until you start pounding them with .44 magnum rounds from a lever rifle... those tend to break down the fir rounds fairly quickly. And the .454 Casull rounds from my Legacy 92 Puma really make quick work of the fir rounds!

Anyway... on to the more important issue... Davidsons has commissioned three Winchester/Miroku 92 models that are currently being offered. They are one of 500 runs.

My understanding is that the 92 Trappers are being offered 1 of 500 in each of several calibers... made available to the public one caliber at a time. Right now the Trapper is offered in .45 Colt (happens to be my favorite caliber).

They are also offering a Winchester 92 one of 500 with 20" octagon barrel rifle in .38-.30 (which I think they're OUT of!) and the same rifle in .357 mag. They show a stock of 99+ on the .357. The 16" Trappers show a stock of 60. The sight says the "sale" (whatever that is) ends Sept 30. You can read about the offerings by going to Davidson's website:

http://www.galleryofguns.com/gungallery/

Click on Limited & Special Editions, then go to page 2 of that section and you'll see three Winchester/Miroku 92 offerings.

As far as purchasing goes, CDNN is only offering the .45 Colt Trapper as far as I know. They're selling it for $699 which is about $100 below dealer cost for most gun sellers. I have a feeling that the Trapper limited is not selling as quickly as Davidsons would like it to so they're cutting CDNN a deal to move them more quickly... all the better for us!

Only 5.7 lbs., 33 3/4" long, handles like a dream, 92 action, chambered in .45 Colt... I could not be more thrilled with the quality, appearance, function, and handling of this little gem of a Trapper. It's my favorite lever rifle (of 10 really nice ones!) Even the selection of walnut for the stock is given high standards... not only is the grain beautiful, but my rifle exhibits even more figure (fiddleback) than the catalog photograph below shows.

By the way, I quickly decided that in spite of it's great beauty, I'm going to give this rifle as much use (or more) than any of my others... it won't be a safe queen, even if it looks like it should be! I want to enjoy this rifle all that I can.

If you want the top shelf in a Win 92, these are it.

By the way, I found an awesome factory-personal defense load for this rifle and for the Legacy 92 Puma (chambered in .454 but also shoots .45 Colt just great):

Georgia Arms .45 Colt 200 gr. Gold Dot JHP in virgin Starline brass... clocks from my Win 92 Trapper at 1424 fps / 901 fpe at 9' from the muzzle.. just about the perfect bullet and loading for personal defense in my view. Only $19 for 50 rounds. Awesome stuff at a reasonable price. Alongside my Mossberg 500 12 ga. "Persuader", the Win 92 stoked with the 200 gr. Gold Dots makes a comforting pair of companions to my 1911's in the dark night. ;)

Howdy, I'm being sorely tempted by the Winchester/Miroku 92 in .45 Colt. I've seen two of them, one has one of the nicest chunks of wood I've seen in a long, long time. The other is fairly plain.

Do you happen to have a 94 Trapper? I once had a pre-safety 94 Trapper in .45 Colt. It was a nice enough gun, but didn't really "stir the soul" like a 92 does.

What about a Browning B92? I don't think any of them were trappers, but the .44 Mag B92 I had was a top notch levergun.
