Just a quick newbie question,

i was at the range the other day and i saw few members using CRC Brake Cleen to clean the bore before using Kleen Bore Solutions -

is that o.k to use?

Yes, pretty much the same stuff as the Outers 'Crud Cutter' and other fancy 'gun scrubbers,' but a lot cheaper. Don't breath any of them. Good for dissolving powder fouling, excess bullet lube, etc. Don't get on your skin, either. Some of them have stuff that will go right through your skin into your bloodstream.

Don't use ammonia-based solvents (copper solvents) after using that stuff, if the spray cleaners contain chlorine (ie. 1,1,1-trichloroethane, should say on the can, hopefully). Ammonia + chorine = ammonium chloride, which is very similar to salt, chemically, and has the same effect on your guns :eek:

Just cleaned up the plastic MTM and RCBS plastic reloading blocks with Birchwood-Casey Gun Scrubber today. Years and years accumulation of Hornady One-Shot spray lube and other crud.

The MTM block came out clean as a whistle and looks great.

The RCBS block BEGAN GETTING SOFT AND TACKY!!!! Some of it actually stuck to my finger like glue when I touched it! Let it set for several hours to reharden and now it has a very rough texture, including my fingerprints.

Do not spray certain plastics with any of the crud blasters until you check a small area first to make sure it doesn't dissolve it!!! :eek:

The original Hornady One-Shot dissolved RCBS loading blocks too. Brake cleaner is absolutely lethal on some plastics (Lexan???). A friend was working on the brakes of his heavy duty trailer and sprayed the clear plastic bearing covers. They cracked in 10 seconds.

You are right about dissolving plastics. I used the Wally world cheap brand of brake cleaner when I practiced for and shot IDPA matches. I still use it but you have to be dilligent about protecting plastic whether it is grips, stocks, or watch bands. 'Dito ;)
