Looks like Ross either left or was asked to leave the Wolfe Publishing family. My understanding is that Mike Venturino will be joining Wolfe.

Sad to see Ross leave, he was my favorite of today's current writers.

Liked his style and enjoyed some of the articles on the old English sporting arms. Guess that is his forte - he could write interesting articles on other issues, though.

Seems he had a run-in with the staff on G&A several years back prior to going to Wolfe Publishing. Maybe he's a little hard to get along with or his ranch/guide service requires more time than before.

Whatever, I'll miss his column in the Hunter and Rifle pubs.

Mike V. is OK - seems stuck in a rut on old leverguns and thumb busters, though.

I'll miss Ross Seyfried in Rifle. His knowledge of the older classic rifles was extensive and he used them too. Maybe only one hunt but they all had their turn in the field. Wonder where he'll turn up now?

Mike Venturino has his following also and I always read whatwever he wrote so that will now continue. I didn't always like leverguns but I sure do now! Bring on the lever articles.

And so long to Ross. You'll be missed.

I like them both, too bad Wolf couldn't have both of them. I enjoy atricles on both the old english sporting arms, and also articles on the old Lever actions.

Seems like writers move around, these days. Oh well... too bad. Wonder where he'll turn up?

As I write this within reach of my desk are maybe 50 G&A mags stacked, open to favorite articles written by Ross. The things he wrote on paper patched bullets, heavy LBT style bullets in handguns, hunting Asian buffalo with Bowen revolvers in Australia, wildcat rifles that gave one the power of a lazer..... :)
That magazine was the highlight of the month, then more of the same but not often enough in Rifle.

Ross has an infectious writing style that inspired me to more than one project.
Oh well, guess it was time to subscribe to something new!

:( Ross Seyfried and Mike Nesbitt were the only redeeming factors in Blackpowder Hunting Magazine until about a year ago when Ross mysteriously disappeared from their pages. Now, except for Mike's writing, they offer nothing but endless whitetail deer and caribou hunting articles and Jim Shockley's inane drivel. I will not be renewing my membership in their hunting club unless some serious changes come about.

As for Handloader and Rifle Magazines, trading Seyfried for Venturino is a wash. If they could have both, it would be great. Unfortunately, these two magazines were at their best many years ago, when they used more freelance writers and maintained a smaller stable of staff writers. They have gotten to where they are not much better than G&A and ST or any of the other mainstream shooting magazines. If Wolfe Publishing can keep Ross in Successful Hunter Magazine, I feel they would have a winner. :)

I really enjoy both Rifle and Handloader Magazines. The articles that Ross Seyfried wrote were always the most interesting and well written to me. I will greatly miss his contributions. If he joins another periodical, I'll subscribe to it.

Agreed. Let's keep an eye out for where (if?) he reappears.
Glad to see Mike Venturino get away from ST. Man, has that one gone downhill! It started with Skeeter's passing, but it's gotten worse since the Prime Media buyout a year or two ago.

Ross is one of my heros. He's been on Under Wild Skies the past few weeks. (he shot an ostrich at 300 yards w/ .470 blackpower cartridge rifle (Gibbs I guess)) with iron sights. Amazing. He isn't retired yet so hopefully we'll get to read some more from him soon... somewhere.

I think R S will show up someplace as he had very interesting articles ! How ever these mags. are going up in price to the point that i could buy a book about shooting for less ! I just looked at Shooting mag. and it is 5.99/copy ! I think they are going to price themselves out of business ! JAGG

I have "followed Ross Siegfried eversince he started
writing articals about Guns/hunting and it seemed to me
he wasn`t afraid to express his personal view on some
of the guns he was asked to write about and that I don`t
think fell in good ground in the american firearmindustri.
Ross is now doing articals for us here in scandinavia
which I really enjoy.

Seyfried wrote the best gun/hunting article I've ever read in BP HUNTING. It was about his experience shooting and buffalo hunting in Australia with an old 4 bore BP cartridge rifle. The slug had a detonator in it's tip which caused a small explosion on impact. There was smoke coming out of the entry wound on the buff he shot.

Seyfried has been with Double Gun & Single Shot Journal for quite awhile. His latest article concerns hunting and loading for two Westley Richards guns, a single shot and a Fauneta model in 20 gauge. The piece is as good as anything he does, which is of a high standard.

He wrote an article on Westley Richards about 6 months ago for Sporting Classics, also. I don't know if he will become a staff writer for Sporting Classics or not, but will check the next issue.

I too was very disappointed to see him go. When ever I received my copy of Handloader or Rifle the first thing I did was check to see what Ross wrote. I can't remember ever reading one of his articles that I didn't enjoy.

I liked his articles on the BIG bores and handgunning in particular. His insight on dangerous game was always amusing. Much credit...also the last IPSC champ prior to Race/Space guns.
