Well I have the chance to pick one up for a very reasonable price (its nearly mint) and was wondering if there were any problems with them? I love springfield for their rifles, and if they put the same ammount of quality into their shotguns then I'm sure there will be no problem. However I'd just like to make sure before I go through with the buy.

Edit:The guy selling it mentioned if I wanted to shoot slugs out of the gun that only the right barrel should be used. Is he saying this because the gun was made that way? Or would he be telling me this because somethings wrong with the gun. I looked it over and nothing seems wrong, no rust, very clean, perfect finish, etc.

I'd guess it's either the choke being correct for slugs, or perhaps one barrel is regulated for slugs better than the other.

Might want to ask him 'why' and see what the answer is....

These shotguns were made by Springfield Arms and later by Stevens Arms and then Savage Arms. If you like the gun, go for it. I suspect the right barrel is more open choked than the left barrel so slugs might indeed shoot better.

Just a note Springfield military rifles like the Model 1903 and 1903-A3 were made at Springfield Armory (and Rock Island Arsenal, Remington and Smith Carona). They were not made at Springfield Arms in Chicopee Falls, MA. All the best...
