My birthday is coming up and my mom offered me a puppy, but my dad hates dogs(Something about a hole he throws money in) so he offered to get me either an AR15 variant or a 9mm pistol. I already own 2 rifles, a ruger 10/22 and remmington 700ADL in .223.
I want the AR15 because... its an AR15 and they are alot of fun. Without the ban 30round clips are dirt cheap. I've looked at bushmaster and Rock River Arms. I want one with a 16-20inch barrel, 30 round magazine, and definately a telescoping stock.
However, since I already own 2 rifles a pistol would be nice. My dad owns 2 revolvers, one in .22 and one in .38. Im looking at a berreta 92. Its cheaper than most AR15's and would definately be fun to shoot.
What are your guys's thoughts?

9mm ammo is about the cheapest ammo there is aside from rimfire. I opted for a 9mm because the ammo is so cheap. Some may not like it but a box of Blazers runs me $3.89/50rnds, premium might run me $8/50rnds. I haven't bought any 40S&W so I do not know how much that is...yet (got one on order...for the last 6 weeks :() I am thinking though between $10-$15/50rnds.
BTW I LOVE MY P226 :D

How well do you shoot a pistol? What is your state law for possession of handguns by minors (you sound like one). Its only federal law to buy from a FFL that you have to be 21. Some states have lower limits to own. You can buy your own long guns when your 18 so the issue is which you want more and would be useful.
One of the advantages of the AR is its modular system of changing uppers, stock, sights, etc. Only other handguns that match that flexiablity is the M1911!

9mm ammo will be cheaper. Every now and then I can get 100rd boxes of Winchester 40 for 16 dollars at walmart. Do pay attention to the stuff CD said. The Berretas I have had experiences with (Military M9s) have been very reliable, easy to field strip and clean, and fun to shoot, but I do like my Glock better. Just a personal preferonce. If you under 21 what about a new shotgun, you seem to have a couple rifles.

isnipesmurfs,
Have you lokked at any Big Bore revolvers? A S&W 44 mag., 357, Tauras 357, 44mag, Ruger 45 colt single action, Ruger newer Big bore hand guns, etc..? The ammo will cost you more but the fun factor goes up as well. Not discounting auto loaders, I own a few of both, it just seems when I head to the range I tend to more often than not pick up one of those revolvers, and spend most of my time shooting them.
Good luck, Man I wish my parents would by me a gun for my B-Day, Heck I wish anyone would buy me a new gun for my B-day!!!
