I'm still trying to get this ruger no. 1 300 win mag to shoot consistently. I brought it to the range, not dealing with the best of weather condition, it was windy and raining like **** but a 300 win mag should be able to stay consistent at 100 yds. I was shooting Remington 160 gr. Perhaps the round was too light but for the time being and for the sake of wasting too much money on round, can someone suggest what they find to be most accurate in a 300 win mag round. At the moment, I am looking for a manufactured round solution. I do not wish to hand load for this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I sent the rifle to my uncle Paul whom is a gunsmith and he is going to pull it all apart and clean all the screws and reseat anything. He may also glass bed OR float the barrel for me and possibly a trigger job. If anyone has any suggestions as for the trigger goes, please send as well.

I have a year to get this firearm ready for both an Alaska trip and a Colorado trip. In the mean time, I’m getting ready and excited for muzzle loading season in Maryland. Only a few weeks away now.

Thanks,

Scott

Scott -

The most favored bullets for the 300 WM is the 180 and 200 grain ones. The Ruger #1's come with a 1:10 twist rate on the rifling. This is too fast to stabilize the lighter 160 grain bullets. The 180's and 200's ought to give you a lot better grouping.

Have owned several #1's and they all responded positively with a business card shim placed between the barrel and the forearm tip. A cheap and fast way to tell if a little forearm pressure will help.

Good luck.
