I have two 1894 Winchesters on approval, cal. 38-55. Neither has the typical Win. proof mark on receiver or barrel. Would Win. or anyone make current ammo for these rifles that would be unsafe to fire;modern powder in a black powder era cartridge/rifle???????? I need to decide whether to keep these guns or return them. I hate to have a gun that I cant shoot other than by my choice.........

Believe the WW factory load is runing about BP pressures...although I've had people report velocities LOWER than what a full case of black will earn.

But those jacketed bullets are probably not the best ammo to push down old barrels...not only the possible wear factor, but old bores tend to be a good bit larger than the .377" those factory slugs measure.
