You are absolutely right. I try to get this point across to my hunter safety classes. Good marksmanship promotes quick, clean kills. The only way to be a good marksman is to practice.

Shootin coke cans at 200 yrds is pretty good in my book. What you speak of is the very reason I shoot a couple hundred rounds a month offhand with .22 LR. I know it's not exactly the same but it keeps me in practice.
Noticed you're in Winfield. I buy powder there. Powder Valley is worth the drive when I buy several pounds. Probably break even by the time I pay for gas but it's a nice drive and I tell my wife it's like a minnie honeymoon.....she just smiles and forks over the money....yes, life is good.

I never thought I'd see the day, but soon all my rifles will wear glass, even the leverguns I swore I'd never scope. I'm not even sure I could even see a 2-liter at that distance.
And old age (I'm all of 47) isn't for sissies. I now shoot my duty gun two or three times a week, just to stay in practice. The older I get, the harder it is to maintain a level of proficiency. And even though I fired about 1500 rounds thru my handguns last month, I'm still nowhere close to the shooter I was in my 20's. Trying to stay a decent pistol shot is getting expensive! I think I need a Federal Grant to study the effects of aging...................... ;)
