I have a ruger no 1 in 220 swift, I took it to the range today to sight it in. The trigger on this this thing is really stiff, I shot decent enough groups with it, but I am sure it would do much better with a alot less trigger pull. I have never tried adjusting one of these triggers before. I noticed the trigger has to small allen screws in the trigger, I wondered about loosening or tightning these, but thought I might see if anyone here had adjusted one before, or had any input.
Thanks in advance

On the new rifles, I don't think those two screws do anything except turn. Mine doesn't on my No.1 7x57. The screws did actually adjust pull weight and overtravel on the old rifles, but not the new ones. If your rifle was made in the mid 90's or so or later, the trigger will need some stoning and polishing internally to make the trigger really nice. If you've never done this on a rifle trigger, the No.1 is no place to start. I'd recommend taking it to a good gunsmith and having them adjust it for you. Or, you could buy an aftermarket trigger like the Moyer for about $40 and install it. Canjar and Kepplinger make super nice triggers for the No.1, but they can be really expensive, around $200.

Thanks for the advice alyeska338,
Mine is a newer model, I have never tried polishing or stoning a trigger so I think I check into a replacement trigger for it. do you know if brownells carries Moyer triggers ? I don't think I want to spend $200 on those other options though.
Thanks

Yes, Brownells does carry the Moyer triggers, or at least they used to.

Looks like they've upped the price to $53.

If I remember correctly, these triggers are supposed to be exactly like the old adjustable triggers Ruger used to use on the No.1 and No.3's.
