Hi Fellas,
Tried to renew my Canadian Firearms License about two months ago, missed checking a box indicating whether I've had any previous relationships, (common-law or otherwise) so my application was put on hold until further info about my private life was submitted to the authorities. Yeah, this is for real!!!
So, three weeks after the required info was mailed to the Canadian Firearms Registry, this attachment was delivered to me today. Note the highlighted Area on the Attachment
Before anyone gets too smug and says; (that could never happen here!) I read today that the State of California has introduced a ban on civilian ownership of 50 BMG rifles. To this point a least, certain brands of 50 BMG rifles are still legal in Canada providing they are registered. I won't tell you if mine is or not! ;)
Anyhow the point of all this is, support the NRA!!! When I was a kid I never would have believed that my government one day would threaten to take my guns if I did not register them or not have a license.

Regards,
Bryan

If Kerry get in, we won't have to worry about the US banning the guns - he kowtows to the wishes and mandates of the UN.

The UN is trying very hard to ban ownership/possession of all small arms worldwide by civilians. Then, only the military and police will have them. Guess what happens after that???

"if you do not have a valid firearms license or FAC, you cannot legally own firearms. You must immediately turn in your firearms to a peace officer, or otherwise lawfully dispose of any firearms in your possession"

Already like that in Illinois.

Suppose I move to Illinois, how would I go about getting a firearm license? I don't wanna dispose of all my guns.

You can download the FOID application here:

http://www.isp.state.il.us/docs/foidcardapp6-181rev0204.pdf

You need a 1 1/4 x 1 1/2 color photo, shoulders up,
and a check for $5.00.

A digital camera image will work, which is what I did for
my wife and myself. Otherwise you have to spend a few
dollars to have a crappy polaroid taken at a place that
makes passports or something similar.

It takes a few weeks for processing.

When I sent in my app with my wife's, it took two weeks to
get hers back, but it took the full 30 days to get mine.

I would imagine that in the process of moving, there is
a grace period for having firearms without the FOID card.
Don't take my word for it. If you are planning on moving
to Illinois, contact the Illinois State Police in Springfield.
217-782-7980. They are actually pretty helpful.

Something that most people aren't aware of:
SIGN YOUR FOID CARD. It is the law, and people are
busted at gun shows for it. $75 fine, I believe.

niner,

Question: Why on earth would you move to IL? Unless your a farmer or politicion there is no reason on earth good enough to move here for. Not even family, I learned that lesson the hard way 5 years ago and am still trying to get out of here.

Answer: If you move to IL you have 90 days to dispose of your fire arms (the States prefered choice) or acquire a FOID.
Since Blagoyavitch took office he has cut the FOID staffing back and has slowed the processing of the paperwork tremendously. It can take as much as two months for a renewal now.
You can't legally cary for self defence and when out hunting the laws are regulated by several different sets of laws, administered by hundreds of law enforcement agencies. They confuse the crap out of me so I won't even try to list them.

Here is a pic of an IL FOID. This card is a farce. Nothing more than gun owner registration. Why bother to register the guns when it's easier to register the gun owners. Obvious info is masked for security and privacy concerns.

To get it, you have to fill out a form identicle to the Federal 4473. Have a pic taken as mentioned, pay $5.00. And wait. This card gives you no perks. When you buy a gun you still have to fill out the 4473 form, a state form for the IL State Police to check you out, which you also have to pay for. Then, yes even after TWO background checks you still have to wait 3 days for handguns, and 1 day for rifles and shotguns.

So I ask again, why on earth would you want to move to IL?

As if that's not silly enough, here's a kicker.......a relative of mine went to the local Wal-Mart to buy me some .22 ammo for Christmas. Asked for a FOID card, she didn't know what it was. Clerk explains that Illinois residents have to have one, but if you're from OUT OF STATE you can buy anything you want, just show a picture ID. Apparently Illinois doesn't trust its own residents, but anyone else who can prove they aren't stupid enough to live there is trustworthy!

I moved here voluntarily, but had I known then what I know now, I'd have had her move to Missouri instead!

Don't worry guys, I am not planning on moving to IL, I was just curious about the process of moving w/guns. I heard some guys talking at the gunshow this weekend about FOID cards, and how if you want to go to a gunshow you have to have a FOID card. I sure am glad I am in TX, I can go to the gunshop pick out a gun, fill out the yellow form, pay for it and go buy some ammo and go shoot it all within 30minutes (depending on if they have the gun I want in stock and I don't have to look around :)) I also can go to a gunshow anytime I want, and buy guns there too, same process of filling out the yellow form. Sure am glad I don't have to wait. :D

Hi all,
As a licenced owner of both handguns and rifles, worked armed, joined the services and having grown up in Australia where firearms ownership was a right not a privellege for all of my family past and present, harsh gun laws would never happen as Australians would never let the Government do that to LAW ABIDDING CITIZENS!
Do not take your rights lightly as the powers to be can change YOUR rights whenever they like.

JUST LOOK AT WHAT THEY, THE MINORITY, DID TO US!

If they are trying to ban 50BMG rifles, this is just the beginning, think of the last time a 50BMG rifle was used in a crime!

We have now just had bans placed on mag capacities for hand guns as well as calibre restrictions to .357.

I NEVER THOUGHT THIS COULD HAPPEN.

JUST SOMETHING FOR ALL OF THE GUN OWNERS NOT PREPARED TO HELP DEFEND WHAT THEY TAKE FOR GRANTED!

Cheers

You guys have to fill out yellow forms too?

All I have to do is fill out the information, they don't call it in.

The other day I was at a career fair talking to a friend of mine who graduated a year before me, and she said there are positions available for PhD Chemical Engineers and that they are all in Chicago. I told her that was not a problem, but the entire time I was thinking about this thread. I learned long ago that I should lie a little bit to at least get my foot in the door, but I am not sure if I want to move to Chicago, though it is a nice place don't get me wrong, might be a nice place to visit but not live sort of thing.

Take it from me, 9r -

Having lived in the area for some 16 years, it is NOT a place for a West Texas boy to be.

Chicago is the same as living in NYC - and you'll have the same gun rights!
