Now I know M1A is a Springfield term, but I hate to use M 14 except in the military selective fire description. What term can we use to denote civilian semi auto m 14 type rifles regardless of make? Anyway, has anybody else run into problems finding and then SECURING a decent scope mount for these rifles? For instance - my Norinco...Rough BUT ready. I'd like to explore the accuracy 1st - with a decent sight, and then look into bedding, loads and what have you. The mount I have now is so ridiculous being secured only with ONE screw; and even though I've tried to "glass bed" the prick, I feel that it's always gonna be a niggling problem. Can anyone suggest a more secure mount for mine that does'nt 'break' the bank and won't need "smithing"?

P.S. I've heard of mounts that sound good, but they nearly cost as much as what I paid for the rifle!

Only one I have used on my Springfields that work is from A.R.M.S. Can't remember the nymber but the base stays in place and a set of throw levers lets you remove the scope for iron sight use and the base stays in place. Dang thing returns to zero and does not interfere with iron sight picture. I just don't know of an inexpensive one!!!

greystoke,

Don't want to seem ignorant, but since the military sniper mount for the M-14 series is a one screw mount assisted by an inverted dovetail to position the mount, just why do you suppose that this is not sufficient? If anything, the US military can be accused of. designing anything that is inadequate in the area of strength is not one!
