Hello, I am new here...
...at this very intresting forum. I am from germany. My knowledge of your language is not so well. I still learn...
I hope you will understand me.
If someone knows how to load a cal. 12 shotshell ammo with blackpowder, please tell me. No german book tells about this.

Thanks, Peter

Welcome to the Beartooth family, Peter. Looks like your English is very good, to me.

Take a few minutes to browse through the different forums here, especially Cowboy Guns and Loads, Black Powder Cartridge and Loading, and Shotguns... I'm sure there are some references to loading shotgun shells with blackpowder in those forums. If you don't see what you are looking for, at the bottom of each page you can set the time from which a thread can be viewed. I've always set my settings to "from the beginning".

Good to have you here and we look forward to hearing from you.

Welcome Peter.
I'd suggest you check out the SASS, Single Action Shooting Society, web site. There's a bunch of cowboys there, that only use black powder for handguns, rifles and shotguns.
One of my clients uses old Damascus barreled shotguns for for dove and quail hunting here in Virginia. He uses brass shotgun cases/hulls loaded with black powder to good effect.
If you are using brass cases I'll ask him what he uses.
We have a Hanover here in Virginia, Hanover County. I suspect it was named for the British Royal house of Hanover, since these Virginians are very fixated on history and lineage.

From this site (notice the additional links in the short piece I have copied):

http://users3.ev1.net/~dave42/shoot/BP_for_CAS.htm

12GA - 65gr FFg BP (4.3cc dipper), Winchester red wad, 1 1/8 oz # 7 1/2 shot in AA or STS hulls. In brass hulls, same load with Circle Fly overshot card sealed with sodium silicate (waterglass). I get better patterns in my Baikal no choke (cylinder bore) coach gun by using the plastic wads compared to fiber wads. I do load a few brass shells with fiber wads instead of plastic for the occasional clay bird. You can read my article on loading all-brass hulls here: http://users3.ev1.net/~dave42/shoot/BrassShotshell.doc and here is a collection of SASS Wire posts listing some other folks' 12 Ga. BP loads: http://users3.ev1.net/~dave42/shoot/BP12GA.htm

You will notice that the .44 and .45 rifle ammo uses a bigger bullet than the pistol ammo. That is to provide a better chamber seal due to the higher pressure, as well as a flatter trajectory for long shots. The heavier bullets take up more room inside the case so there is less room for powder. Bigger bullets do give more recoil but this is a minor issue in rifles. If necessary, the pistol ammo shoots okay in the rifle and vice versa. As I mentioned before, I squeeze some Crisco into the front of the cylinder over a couple of the bullets in my pistol loads, so that I don't need to use any BP lube in the bullets.

I use a Lee Load-All for the shotshells, except for the powder which is dipped by hand. The .44 Specials are mostly loaded on a Dillon Square Deal B, and the rest are loaded on a Lee 4-hole Turret with Lee dies. I use Lee factory crimp dies for .45LC and .45ACP, but not .38/.357 where I just use the Lee seat/crimp combo die.

Hello Jim,
Thanks a lot for the link to the sass web site - i stored it to my favorite sites. It will take some time for me to translate and understand it. My bp shotgun is an Belgian model from 1890 - 1910. Cal. 12, case length=65mm.
I don´t know so much about the hannover royal history. I think some of the British Royals and the Hannover Royals are related. (I hope the instant translator worked well)
Bye, Peter

Peter
The translator worked fine.
If you wish I'll do some looking around for brass 12 guage shells/hulls. It may be that brass shotgun shells/hulls are available across the pond already.
My friend who hunts with black powder cartridge shotguns, finds the old shotguns at gun shows. He has a fine collection of American, British, Belgique and if memory serves a couple of German Damascus barreled black powder cartridge shotguns.
Do you hunt with the black powder shotgun?
Jim

PS
With a Scot/Irish, with a hefty dose of Cherokee Indian ancesters I would have thought the Royal house of Hanover would have had better sense then to breed with the British.
I could not pass up the chance to fire a shot across the bow of the Brits.
Take care.

Hello Jim,
untill now i have never shot my Bp shotgun. I want to use it for skeet/trap shooting. Thats the only way to use it here in germany if you have no licence to hunt. The huntinglicence (i will get it next year) cost approximately 1500 -1800 Euro till Examination, a little bit more in Dollar .
The There is a shop in germany wich sells complete BP loaded cases for shotguns in the correct size for my shotgun(these cases are brass and plastics or paper), but they cost approximately 1,50 $ a piece. Therefore I want to reload cases. I don't know wich cases i should take, only brass or brass with plastics?

The second part you wrote, I unfortunately could not translate yet. I will answer when I have understand it. I'll buy a good dictionary now.
Take care
