Hi, I am in the market for a set of electronic earmuffs to mainly hunt with (.44 rev., 10mm). I read Mr. Ayoob, and other cops like the Wolf Ears because of its excellent directional hearing. All I have ever owned is the Peltor Ultimate 10 muffs, I have been putting them over my ears for the last couple of years and am tired of it. I would like your personal experinces and choices please, all the choices I have seen are Wolf Ears, Peltor Tac.6/7, Pro-Ears, Radians, Walker Power Muffs. (oh how waterproof are they?)
Thanks.
Have three sets of electronic muffs: Pro-ears Lineral Elite, Pro-ears Dimension II and Action Ears Sport.
Would imagine they're all weatherproof, as long as they are on your head and ears - electronics are not exposed to the elements.
Would rate all of them about the same. They will block real loud reports, but WILL NOT block 100% of the reports. Not aware of any electronic muff that will do such.
Wanting to protect what little hearing I have left, I still use the foam inserts in the ears underneath the muffs for more protection. This would probably not be desirable in a hunting situation where you want to hear the crunching of leaves, etc.
Would recommend you get whatever brand you can afford to purchase - the higher dollar ones will be more reliable.
I've considered the electronic muffs myself. I use plugs (the military issue) when hunting with my 44 handgun. After an hour on the indoor range I can't wait to remove them. So, wearing them in the woods hour after hour sealed it for me. I did try those hearing aid looking things at a gunshow. Will admit they worked well, but too expensive. If you choose the muffs, you might try the style that wraps around the back of your neck, if you wear a cap while hunting.

I use a cheap pair of Caldwells I got from Sportsmansguide for about 50 bucks, they work pretty well, but when I am shooting full power mag or anyone nearby at the range is shooting mags I wear the soft foam plugs too.....mack

I have Peltor Tac7S I love them, I can wear them all day , My wife also has the same ones she realy likes them, as far as water I have never had them wet so I can't help there.. They use a standard 9V battery easy to change and last like the "bunny".
