Why is it so hard to get out the door every year?

The bad news: Here I am holding a deer license 10 days into the season and I haven't set foot in the woods. Hunting gear is scattered all over the garage in an unorganized mess.

The good news: Thank goodness the knives are sharp, the rifle is zeroed, permits are in my wallet, and I know where my orange vest is. And I am free all day.

Mission for today: Get out the door! Last chance to spend a few hours looking for deer before it closes Thursday. And elk season starts Friday morning.

The BEST news: From 5 pm Thursday until next Tuesday morning I am in the timber chasing elk!

I suppose I should be thankful that deer season comes the first two weeks of October and serves as a wake-up call so I am actually organized for elk season the last two weeks.

Been there done that also, and all of a sudden season is gone, no venison in the freezer. Wonder where the time goes, for that matter, wonder where the last 30 years went.
Hope you get a shot at a good one! Paul

There is one thing that would help.

TURN OFF THE COMPUTER!

Another help is once the hunting firearm is removed from Gun Safe, Lock safe and quit playing with toys. In other words ignore Loading Bench Reloading Manuals and gun Mags. Also sporting goods catalogs.

Added: If it doesn't pertain to current Hunt, Ignore it!!!!!!
Now if I can take my own advice I will get into the woods tomorrow.

I sure wish I could go hunting, I've been going dove hunting about once-twice a week up until the rain came. tried to beat the rain but it won, twice so far, first time we went out and thought it would blow over....didn't came from all around and centralized over us, an hour long drive (one way) for nothing :( the second time we went out one morning after a nice day of no rain and apparently that nice day didn't dry up the dirt roads so we got stuck in the mud :( my hunting buddy and I have decided that we won't go unless there is at least 2 days of clear weather to dry up the mud, we haven't seen that in 2 weeks now. This is Lubbock TX it is never supposed to rain here.

All good advice, gents. Funny how we know better than we do.

Had a great time crawling over Sheep Mtn. Got the drop on two does but couldn't get either one to grow antlers.

At the end of the day I was happy but well reminded that my knees are 58 years old.

Elk season begins at dawn Friday.
