i know this may not seem like the place for this but i think it affects us all, who do you think is going to win the election and if kerry does win what do you think is going to happen to our firearms,it is a close call right now and i dont want him to get it do you think he'll renew the original assault weapons ban or will he make a much worse one. or will he move to bigger laws not just "assault weapons" or just tax everything so that we cant afford anything that has to do with firearms. or is it time to start stocking up now

I'm voting for Bush. But, I've got a strange feeling Kerry is going to win. He'll probably execute a turn in a gun for cash program. It's scary, real scary.

If Kerry wins I think I'm going to move to Canada for the next four years.

I don't think any President has more power than the NRA. They do a great job lobbying for our rights. I don't think Kerry will be able to take our "right to bear" away because I think the NRA has more pull than he does.

Well, quite honestly...

I'm not so sure that he can really do all that much all by himself. Laws have to pass Congress before they reach the President's desk, and right now Congress is pretty much Republican controlled. If it stays that way, it MIGHT be a good thing.

However, there's a bill in the House now (HR 10) that's being pushed by REPUBLICANS, and if you think it's nothing to worry about, you haven't kept yourself all knowed up on what's going on.

I'm voting for Bush, but only because Mickey Mouse isn't running.

Drifter,

Do you think Mickey Mouse could beat Herman Munster (Kerry)? Like I said, it's scary.

broncobill86,

No...no...don't move to Canada. You don't know what you'd believe in, plus it's to much like France.

You're forgetting that the president still appoints heads of many federal agencies, Attorney General, FBI, BATF, and so on, all of which have a keen interest in firearms law. Remeber Billy Clinton's "squeeze" on gun dealers that put many FFLs out of business? Not to mention federal and Supreme court justices, probably the most important seats to fill.

There's also executive orders, which go a long way.

Even it the House and Senate stay divided..... gun legislation is hardly the only thing that needs to be passed in the next 4 years. Votes get traded, and so on. It's the nature of politics.

Press likes to call the election close... and it will be... but Bush is ahead in electoral votes, with current projections (funny how they don't report that). Kerry campaign has pulled up stakes in a few states, basically conceding them. It ain't over yet....

Personally, I'd rather not find out!!!!! If he wins, nothing good for guns can come of it.

If Kerry wins, I'm moving either to Israel or Switerzland. They're far more open towards firearm ownership and in both countries. The people have realised that an armed society is a polite society. Well, expect for the PLO in Israel, that's why IMI made the Desert Eagle and the 50AE cartridge.

Can't say that I've ever heard it put that way, but that's just about the way I feel!

I belong to some other forums also (off-road vehicle, etc), and the participants are watching this race every bit as closely as us, and generally pulling for Bush. I hope A.J. is wrong, but it could happen, it has in the past. And i'm not sure that the NRA has more pull than the president, but i do think that its our responsibilities to do all we can to support the NRA and educate the masses. The fact that Sarah Brady said on tv that "the difference in rate of fire between a full auto and a semi auto is negligeable" will carry a lot of credence for those that don't know the difference. I've shown people here at work the facts and figures, and its changed their minds about the way they looked at "assault weapons", and especially they way they looked at Sarah B. But, its a small victory as long as the majority thinks she is right.

There is a huge difference ! I got to go shoot some fully autos a couple weeks ago, and man that was awesome. I could never pull the trigger as fast as that M4 could spit out .223 shells. We won't even discuss the UZI, that thing looked like it was just lobbing handfuls of shells out. Brass flying everywhere, man it was great.

to heck with Isreal and Switzerland....Finland will let you own FA weapons, last I heard. :)

I remember not too long after the collapse of the old Warsaw Pact there were farmers turning in TANKS for money. :D

Even if it were an old T-64 or somthing, I would have kept it....do alot of plowing with that baby. :p

I don't think we need to worry...Herman Heinz ain't gonna get into the White House.

Of course there's a huge difference. But, how many "people-on-the-street" know that? As long as they think there is no difference, they will ask what sporting use there is for an assault rifle. And, i'd pretty much have to agree with them. Do i need a 650 rpm rifle to hunt deer with? Of course not, but its not "normally, or casually" available to me either. But as long as the public thinks that's what this is all about, its gonna be tough going for us. And i think if Kerry gets in he will play right into their hands. And that's just my .02......

One thing few of them stop to think about, and it's been said before:

Where in the 2nd ammendment does it mention "sporting use"? or that we can't have weapons that are not intended for such?

Firearms are what keeps this country free, and THAT'S why they want to take them away. It's not about guns, it's about control.

Drifter

It doesn't......but the common argument against people owning "assault rifles" is that there is no "sporting use" for a rifle with that kind of firepower. They further argue that "assault rifles" fire very powerful cartridges, not intended nor suitable for sporting use. The 5.56 "very powerful"? Or the 7.62x39 "very powerul"? I don't think so. The point i'm trying to make here is that when un-knowing people listen to those like Sarah Brady, they take her word for gospel. They don't always take the initiative to educate themselves on the facts, and that's what Brady and company are banking on, as is Kerry. I work at a fairly large company that has a lot of hunters, and a lot of female employees. Most of the female employees take the same stand, "why do you need something like that for hunting"? And i don't even want to mention how many times i've heard the statement "it must be true, otherwise they couldn't say it on tv."

If Kerry wins, it will be bad for gunowners because of his appointments to Attorney General, etc., as well as Supreme Court Justices and Federal District and Appeals Court Judges. That and the aforementioned Executive Order is where we will get hurt. As long as the Republicans hold the House, AND Tom DeLay is Majority Leader, there will be no new gun control laws. He will not allow those bills to see the light of day. You can thank Tom DeLay for the sunset of the Assault Weapons Ban, as it was his power over what is allowed to come to the floor of the house that kept renewal bills out of play.

As far as Kerry being elected, I have to believe that the American people have more sense than to elect a Traitor and Communist fellow traveler to be the leader of the free world. I may be disappointed in the end, but keep in mind that if you're getting your political info and opinions from the mainstream press, i.e. ABC,NBC,CBS,CNN,L.A. Times,Washington Post, N.Y. Times or AP,Reuters or Knight-Ridder, they are biased towards Kerry, and in the case of ABC,CBS and CNN are pulling out all the stops to influence the electorate. Some will say "well, the American people elected Bill Clinton twice". Keep in mind that Bill Clinton was elected in a plurality BOTH times because Ross Perot siphoned off votes that would have normally gone to the Republican Candidate.

Hope I haven't stepped on any toes here, but those are my opinions on the matter.

Im actually not voting now. I do think we need more choices. 3 or 4 credible canidates would be nice. But keep people like Ralph Nader out of it, I wouldn't vote for him if he had a gun to my head. I'm bidder about unnessicary emissions controls on cars that he caused.

Speaking of sporting use. I want a heavy FAL .308 for deer hunting. Some don't believe it, but at that Full Auto shoot, I was shooting my friend's FAL. With a little aim practice, I was dinging a target at 468 yards with it. The ammo was nothing fancy, just said 7.62 NATO on the back. I love the built in bipod.
