My state has up for vote a constitutional amendment to protect what the call a way of life for Montanan's. Its a right to hunt/fish for wild game. The proponents say that 20 states have passed similar laws, and that we should too. All it really says is that if somebody were to challenge a right to hunt, it would require a 2/3 majority in the Legislature, and a majority of voters.

The thing is, it doesn't really say anything else. Anybody have any real details (positive or negative) about what this kind of law does? I'm probably gonna vote for it, I just want some decent information.

This law, as I understand the Voters Pamplet, is not to FOREVER GUARANTEE our "Right" to hunt. As you have stated, legislators can 'amend' a Constitution (U.S. or State).

This Proposal is to give us some protection from PETA, the "Humane Society", Greenpeace, and other groups who CAN petition a U.S. District Court to STOP the hunting in any State (as long as the States' constitution Does Not trumph). Currently, our Montana Constitution does not SPECIFIALLY give us the "Right" to hunt. Only permits guns.
Unfortunately, the Proposal uses the word "opportunity" in place of "right" to hunt. Opportunity means as long as OTHER State regulators (like FWP, State Executive branch, County Law Enforcement etc) permit the act of hunting.
The Proposal is poorly written, however it IS WRITTEN. And it is a beginning of a good thing, and I encourage ALL Montana voters to vote 'YES' on this proposal.

Sounds to me they are creating a proposal to send a clear message to the Anti groups. I echo that this is sure a good start. (provided some liberal judge doesn't decide to toss it out)

They specifically quoted states like Washington and Oregon as far to anti hunting to pass a law like this.
Its goofy, and doesn't really guarantee anything.
