Hi All
I got into the habit of counting the rounds I fire thru each handgun I own, back when I was shooting in the Police Pistol Leagues in the 80's. I still do it. I guess it helps me keep track of maintenance issues, like when to do a detail-strip or just routine maintenance.
I picked up a Smith 65-2 3" this summer, and have almost three thousand rounds thru it, most +P 38's on bowling pins. I'm spending a small fortune on components, but I'm also shooting better than I have in years. The older I get, the more practice it takes!
I have an EAA Witness in 40 caliber that I used to shoot a lot, then it sat around as a house gun until I got the 65-2. I have re-discovered heavy bullet loads for it, and am having a great time shooting against my buddy and his 45ACP. It hits about as hard as his does, and holds more, and I'm really enjoying shooting it. I thought the round count was around 12K or so, until I tallied it up. I'm a hair over 22 thousand rounds, and the gun just doesn't bobble. I have fed it handloads that would choke most other guns, it just gobbles them up and spits them out all day long. I finally replaced the recoil spring recently, after 13 years with the old one, didn't make any difference. Stupid gun doesn't know it's supposed to be wearing out, it acts like a teenager with a credit card.
Anybody else count rounds, or base maintenance issues on how much you shoot certain guns? The weird thing is, I only do it for handguns, I've never kept track of rifle rounds.
