I am considering a SKS conversion to 50 beowulf. The main things to change are the barrel and gas block. There would be some modification to the magazine feed lips.

Actually the .50 beowulf is some sort of 50 cal. brass with a .223 hind end. That is why they convert easily into AR-15. The AR-15 magazines will accept this massive round as well. They have roughly the same power as a 45-70. Thats alot to have in your hands.

Actually, the Beowulf brass is a stretched out .50AE with the rim size of a 7.62x39 .

DAAAANG!

Those cylinder walls look terribly thin.

I bet the S&W 500 is still more powerful than the
Beowulf in a handgun. :)

Plenty thick enough. The .50 B and the .458 SOCOM both operate at pressures of 35K psi or less. The problem with the .50 B in a revolver is lack of a rim therefore you cannot use a heavy roll crimp to hold the bullet in place but must use the more common for autoloaders headspace-on-the-mouth taper crimp, which the .50 B uses to headspace on. The .458 SOCOM runs into the revolver problem of being a bottleneck round, so IMO neither one make for an ideal revolver cartridge.
