Hi all. I have a couple of questions, though myabe someone out there could help.
I own a Savage 24c DL over/under combo is 22LR/20ga. I am wondering if any one else has had the opportunity to put a rifled slug through this gun, and if so what sort of accuracy was acheived? (with what Ammo.?)
Also I am contemplating have the gun modified to accept different choke tubes and again was wondering if anyone has gone down this road before?
Thanks so much I look forard to the responses!
Steve.

I have several Savage 24's in different configurations, three of them with 20g tubes underneath! I've shot slugs through all of them and although they actually shoot consistently through them all, not necessarily to the same point of aim as the rifle barrels.
My Savage 24C Camper's Companion 22LR/20ga actually shoots the closest to the point of aim of the rifle, being about two inches low and dead-on for windage at 50 yards using slugs when compared to the .22LR barrel's sight settings. This is a livable condition.
In the .30-30AI/20ga, the slugs hit about five inches left, and two inches low when compared to the rifle barrel's sight settings.
In the .223/20ga seems to me that the slugs were off about four inches at around five o'clock when compared with the rifle sights as I recall. (It's been a while on this one!)
The slug loads were using sabot-type slugs cast out of Lyman's 20ga HB FN mold, and out of our alloy they drop a 385 grains. This used a 2.75" Winchester AA20 hull, AA20F1 wad, W209 primer and 17.0g 800X powder for a velocity of roughly 1250 fps.
This load shot very consistently in the open-choke of the 24C (five shots into about 2.5" @ 50 yds) and I guess reasonably well in the modified chokes of the other two 24V's averaging about four inches at 50 yards. With the centerfire combo guns the accuracy of the slugs was merely an academic pursuit, as obviously the rifle barrels are much better suited to heavier game than would be the short-range possibilities of the slug in these guns. However the performance in the 24C was of prime interest due to the fact of only carrying the .22 rimfire rifle barrel. It is comforting to know that the slugs will perform reasonably well, and predictably out of this little gun out to at least 75 yards, and do so pretty much to the point of aim of the sights, as it really expands the horizons of this little gun's potential past the small game/varmint venue if the opportunity presents itself.
Have never tried factory loaded slug loads of any description so can't comment on their performance.
Perhaps this info will help you out.
God Bless,
