anyone used heavy for caliber bullets in a Contender in .45 ACP? I'd like to try this for deer, but can't find any load data beyond 260 grain.

I seriously doubt that the ACP case is big enuogh to hold the bullet and enough powder to make it work well.
Just my thoughts though. I've not tried it.

The 45 ACP cartridge has is about .74" deep. Measuring a 340gr cast bullet I have is .54" from crimp to base. This leaves about .2" of space for powder. I dont think that is going to allow enough powder to propel a 335gr bullets at any kind of hunting velocity. Might have better luck throwing a rock at the deer. Sorry

Yes, I realize I made a mistake. I wanted to check on a 260 hard cast for the .45 ACP; the 335 was for Long Colt. Got a box of both from a friend. I have both revolvers and wanted to try the .45 ACP in the T/C, but needed a load for the 260.

For the 260 - get a copy of the current Speer manual, or even one or two editions back, and they have load data for their 260gr. jacketed bullets in the .45 ACP. That should be a good start.

I'll do you a favor- This right out of the Speer Manual #13.
45 ACP 260 gr JHP .451 DIA Speer Part# 4481 COL 1.200
Herco 6.9 MAX 6.3 min
231 5.9 Max 5.4 min
Unique 6.3 Max 5.8 min
Bullseye 5.2 Max 4.7 Min
Red Dot 5.0 Max 4.6 Min
All these get you around 750-847 FPS!
I shoot 255 SWC COL 1.185 out of my P90 with 5.6 gr W231 for 886 fps Chronied! Very accurate round -but kicks pretty good in a auto!
