Will pick up my Beretta CX4 Storm in 45ACP in about a month. Are there any heavy hardcast bullets that I could use for hogs? This weapon is of the blowback design (no gas ports). Would prefer to use 250gr. and up. Also,is there any loading data out there for these heavy bullets?---- THANKS----pruhdlr

Garden-variety 255gr SWC, see Speer manual for load data for their 260gr. JHP. I've pushed some of the bulk Midway bullets pretty fast with 231, but you have to watch the seating depth so they'll feed, and that eats up case capacity. For short range, they ought to do just fine.

I know Marshall has some better bullets for the purpose, but I don't know how his backlog is with respect to your hunt schedule. You might ask him....

Thanks Mike. I would like to use his bullets if possible. He has been great to talk to on the phone and he is allways willing to share his wealth of info------pruhdlr

Any idea what the increase in velocity would be in a carbine vs. a pistol? Assume standard 230 grain bullet @ 850 fps from the pistol. I'm guessing mv would be about 1100 fps from the carbine. Has anybody chrono'd this? I'm curious because I am thinking of getting an AR15 in either 45 or 10mm soon. Maybe if I behave Santa will let me have both. :p

Probably not much, reading some articles in the Gun Digest Book of the .45 (Dean Grennell). Most of his loads didn't show much improvement, if any, going from the pistol to the carbine. If you can get a copy of that book, it's pretty good.

A load that I've used extensively in the .45ACP with great results, and glowing reports from most folks with whom I share this load as well:

BTB .452"-255gWFNPB/7.0g AA#5/WLP Primer/C.O.L. 1.125" (for most 1911's and similar)

Great load, and delivers quite a punch for the .45 Auto!

God Bless,

Thanks for the info! I will look for the book at the next gun show.

One of my 45 auto loads using Cast Performance's 265gr. WFN and N350 averages just under 1000fps from my 5" Colt and about 1125fps from my dad's Marlin Camp Carbine.

Are you utilizing a taper crimp on that load? I'm assuming you are because of the 1911. I have four 1911's and a S&W 625-8. I'm looking for a good 255 gr SWC load in both. I want to use my moon clips in the Smith, so I'd like to use a taper crimp. This would allow me to shoot the load in all of the guns.

Have you ever experienced any bullets backing out of their crimp when being driven that hard? My 45 Colt did it until I got a really good roll crimp?
