OK, just so we all can learn from this....
Put a nice scope on a .45 Colt / Marlin 1894. Brand is immaterial to the story, but it's a Leupold 2x7, Weaver base, weaver rings.
So.... other than ruining a lever gun with a scope (hey, we shoot a lot of pigs at night! :D ), did one other dumb thing.
THOUGHT I had the scope clearing the rear sight.... but the rear buckhorn is on a long spring, and tends to flop around, apparently.
First time I took the gun out, would get a couple of shots real close to each other, then there's one on the other side of the target. What the????????
Shot it again.... same results.... I mean, this thing shot worse than my Blackhawks & open sights, with the same ammo! And getting some shots touching was driving me mad.
Finally, turn the thing over and look at it.... nice gouge in the scope where one of the sight 'ears' was hitting it, I guess just once in a while.
Took the scope off, took the elevator out from under the sight, remounted the scope. First time I looked at the gun as it came out of the box, had a mind to mill the rear sight ears off flat.... must have been my subconscious, LOL.....
First shot high on the target, presumably the scope settling in; then the next 4 in a 2 inch group at 100 yards :D
Oh yeah.... need to get some more ammo loaded up and get this thing into the field!!!!!
A 300gr. bullet at 1700fps will get attention of anything I plan on shooting this year
So file that one in your list of things to not do!
