below is a link to a site where a guy loaded a round into his new MKIII and with the muzzle pointed safely downrange, whacked the loaded chamber indicator with a small dead blow hammer (to simulate dropping the gun onto the indicator). THIS PRODUCED AN ACCIDENTAL DISCHARGE MORE THAN 50% OF THE TIME.
anyone thinking about or owning a MKIII or the new .22/45 should look at this.
Ruger is aware of this and is working on a fix.

Yep...the indicator is just cammed out of the way by the case rim...smacking it would impact the case rim and set her off. Other pocket pistol makers that included a loaded chamber indicator in their centerfire designs left them off of the rim-fire designs...I just assumed Ruger figured that out before marketing.

So they either have to come up with a better indicator (probablya reasonably soft synthetic) or move on to a Mk. IV with a differnt indicator system.
------
For that matter, I've never owned a Mk.II...If i ever wear out the original Ruger type, will think about it...but so far, the "Mk. I" is doing just fine.

I talked with my Ruger Media Person (I publish ruger22.com) and was told they are aware or the problem, have fixed it, are sending an advice letter to owners and have started shipping Mark III's again (.22LR). BUT, they also will NOT be producing the mark III in .17M2 caliber due to the pressure and bolt problems.

Ironic isn't it we have got to the point of making our guns so darn safe that their not. Kinda like ,"Yeah i shot my toe off, but at least I knew the chamber was loaded when it happened."

Why is it that all of the gun companies are making all of there models with the hammer locks, chamber indicator, and magazine safety. By the last, I mean if the magazine is out of the pistol. You cannot work the action or pull the trigger.

i've looked at the new and improved LCI and it can not accidentally discharge like the original. It was made of plastic and it appeared to be spring loaded. So if you whack it with a hammer or other...the piece touching the rim of the bullet doesn't move.
