Need to get a muzzleloader to extend my deer season in MO. I see NEF offers a Huntsman .50 barrel for the standard model SB1 shotgun frame/stock/forend. Has anyone tried this program with NEF and/or owned or tried the NEF Huntsman series of muzzleloaders?

I like the feel of my SB1 in .410. It's light but handles comfortably. Certainly, the .50 ML will bump my shoulder a bit harder but I think I would enjoy the ability to go from squirrel gun to .50 ML with a gun that is otherwise comfortable and familiar to me already.

About forty years ago I wrote an article for "Gun Sport and Gun Collector Magazine" about the H&R "Huntsman". That rifle was almost identical to the NEF - it was in .58 and shot beautifully, was accurate, and the recoil was not at all uncomfortable. I'd guess that the .50 would shoot softer due to the lighter projectile. DOn't try to "magnmumize" your loads and you'll probably enjoy making really big holes in targets andf game.
