I have a T/C White Mountain Carbine. I'm currently shooting 350gr T/C Conicals with 95gr Pyrodex and I'm interested in shooting tighter and flatter. A friend is using T/C 270gr sabots. I only hunt whitetails and am intersted in your opinion as to whether I should move to a sabot. I have not shot many muzzleloader rounds and have very little personal preference to loads. I have read that the Hornady XTP 300gr sabot may work great. Any suggestions for this gun? Most shots are from 75 - 125 yards.

I would try a 240-250g pure lead bullet in a few differant sabots to see what works best. The 240g bullet pushed by 90-100g of Pyrodex shoots about as flat as you can get with what you are using. That is a handy hunting rifle you have. Good luck.

I have a WMC and Hawk is right, it is a really fine handling gun, my main deer gun for the last 14 seasons. There are 2 kinds of bbl.s on these guns, the early ones had 1:20 twists, the later guns had 1:38 twist rifling. Mine is 1:20 and shoots a .44cal 240Hornady in a Black T/C sabot or a 250gr/.45cal Hornady in a Black Knight sabot, both produce fine groups with 80 grs. of 2F goes bp. If you have the 1:38, try the Buffalow Ballets, I think they are 245gr or maybe 275, they shoot well from that twist rate.

i have a treehawk which is mechanically similar to the white mtn, i like 80 gr of RS under a buffalo ballet [270 gr,lead hollowpoint] this load allows finger starting in bore, you get 50 for app7.00, so its also a cheap round to use and for me its pretty much a tack driver up to 100yds. one thing i like to do is remove the lube that comes on them from the factory[acetone or laquer thinner, and then lube them w/ bore butter] the sabots shoot well but loading them is a PAIN for me

In my .50 caliber White Mountain Carbine, 1 in 38" twist, ( The later 1 in 38" twist barrels, have the Q.L.A. false muzzle) I use 80 grains of FFFG American Pioneer Powder, with a T/C Break-O- Way sabot, and Hornady 250 grain XTP. Groups up very nicely at 50 yards.
