Hello all, this is kind of a 2 part question.
I've decided I want a 9mm semi auto so I can get alot of range time in with lower cost, and I've been wanting a semi auto. I've decided I want 9MM thats 100% for sure.
My question is this, what is a good 9mm to get?
This will also be my carry gun for a short time...

The two I'm leaning towards is either a Taraus 24/7 or a glock the only thing is I've seen a few websites talking about glocks KB'ing (blowing up)

For my second question, has anyone ordered a gun from galleryofguns.com and how did it go? they way I can get a 24/7 from a local dealer on there for $408...
Thanks!

Don't think there were ever any issues with the 9mm glock going "boom". The .40 / 10mm and .45 I've heard had some issues - the .40 problems apparantly only happened with cops who are using ammo a bit on the hot side. Again, a ton of rumors, and glock's PR department handled it as well as they could. I think you'll find that is the general consensus, people "kinda sorta" heard about it, but not much further.

I recall the Portland, Oregon cops returned a batch of .45 glocks about 8-9 months ago because of a similar issue, very quiet, but the news popped up for a short time.

Never used gallery of guns, and I probably would of have plunked down the extra money and gotten a glock instead of my SW 39-2. I've shot a couple glocks and like how they feel. It depends on your personal preference I suppose.

There are a couple "need to be done" mods for factory glocks (usually less than $50 worth, but it is extra money that you should expect to spend), people around here will have some more details on that (bigger mag release, "Extended Slide Release Combat Lever", lighter trigger, etc).

Having a less popular gun is kind of nice, as sometimes the prices for parts are cheaper, but finding the parts are usually a PITA and you might have to pay scalper prices. I've bought grips for $4, a barrel for $20, slide and spare spring, etc for $30 etc. Pretty good deals, considering.

If you want a pistol that is 100% reliable out of the box, you don't have to do anything to it to make it run 100% with any ammo, and will be more accurate than you are, then the HK USP will fill the bill. It comes with an extended slide release standard, ambi mag release standard, and you can choose any one of 9 variants. Or you can get the Compact, same as USP but slightly smaller, or if you want a really nice DAO the P2000 or P2000SK (smaller than P2K) should be checked out. I just got the P2K .40 and while I have not shot it yet, it is a dandy. Very light LEM DAO trigger, ambi slide release, ambi mag release, no controls since it is DAO. Several variants are available for it also with DAO trigger pulls from 8.5 to 5.0 pounds and you can get it with a SA/DA decock (V3) also. It also comes with 4 interchangeable back straps.

Sales pitch over. Go to HKPRO.com and see what we think of them over there.
Davidson's Gallery of Guns, they are good people. I have had my dealer get me in a couple of guns from them and there were no problems at all.

I am quite pleased with my Sig P226. Its ideal for range use, but a bit large for concealment purposes, but then of course it has little brothers who are extremely good as well P228, P229, P239, etc.

Check out a Springfield XD9. Great gun and probably $60 to $75 less than a Glock. It has the benefit of an added grip safety and most owners find the angle of the grip to be much more comfortable than a Glock. Also, the frame of the XD is such that you won't suffer from "slide bite". I didn't ever have this happen when I was trying out Glocks, but I've seen some people mention it.

It's also eaten everything I've fed it - WWB, UMC, Wolf, Silver Bear, Speer Gold Dots. Probably over 1000 rounds total and no FTFs or FTEs.

Love my XD-40. Shoots up everything I put in it. Just keep it clean. You also have the option of the 3 or 4" model for carry. The safeties are great on this gun and was the deciding factor when I bought it. Feels good and shoots good.

edited to add....I've not used Gallery of Guns to purchase but I do enter their give away every month. I normally try to support my local gunshops even if it costs a little more. You need to figure in shipping and FFL charges when pricing a gun on the internet.

The only lower priced autos worth looking at are Ruger---CZ---and the XD's.

Kept jamming on me...

The only thing I don't think I'd like about the XD is the safety that is right in the webing of your hand between your thumb and index finger...

You don't even know the grip safety is there. Love my XD9 4".

First, I have a co-worker that has purchased through the Gunbroker system, and has been satisfied. Granted he purchased unusual firearms that are rare and out f pruduction, ie, early Rem XP-100 etc.
add shipping and gundealer fees and this usually brings the price up $50.

Buyin a pistol? Go to a gunshow, several dealers and handle 'em. The way a pistol fits your hand will have a significant amount of influence on your ability to shoot it well. Look for major mfgs.

To what purpose will this be used, plinking, concealed carry, nightstand gun? More than one person gonna shoot it?

My hand is broad but my fingers are short thus standard size DA autos don't work well for me. I have a G17 and Kel-Tec in 9mm. I get better headshots at 25 yrds with the Kel-tec than with the G. It fits better to my hand, recoil is mild and the trigger, though heavy, is constant and smooth. (Got to say there are a lot of Kel-tec owners at my club, most of 'em Law enforcement. That's how I got clued into 'em.)

Glock, Ruger, Sig, Springfield, Colt, H&K, etc etc etc.
Remember many models you see on other calibres are available in 9mm. Had a chance to get a Colt Commander once in 9, passed on it and regretted it ever since. Would have been a perfect fit for the wife!

Keep us posted on what you find out! education for us all!

99: Another vote here for the Springfield XD line. I just got one in 9mm and can't say enough good things about it. I have shot a whole bunch of 9mm, from Glocks to Rugers and all the way back to Browning Hi-Power. I really believe at this point the Springfield shoots better than any of them. I have only put about 600 rounds through the thing so far, but a real wide variety of ammo (HP, RN FP), even some handload stuff with Rainer bullets - the gun can't seem to tell the difference. It eats everything up. The magic of the XD line is that Springfield took the best features from several guns (the grip safety from the 1911, the trigger safety from the Glock) beefed everything up a bit, and shazzam - a gun that goes bang every time and is better than average accurate. It is Cheaper than the Glock (and better all around in my opinion) and it has a better trigger than the Glock. Right now I have the service model with a 4 inch barrel for home defense (hey, they come with 15 round mags now - yahoo!). I am going to get the tactical version next, with the 5 inch barrel for target shooting. This is the only model of handgun I have ever bought two of. What more can I say? --Mykal Banta

I've used Davidson's. Ordered my 629 from them. Supposedly they have a lifetime return policy. Haven't used it but my dealer says it's excellent.

who is CZ??
.

CZ is short for Ceska Zbrojovka, Uherksy Brod and is the largest weapons factory in the world located in the Czech Republic. No less of an authority than Col. Jeff Cooper considers the CZ 75 the finest 9mm ever made. I bought one for less than $400, and was amazed at the reliability, feel, and accuracy. Police and military around the world use the CZ more than any other handgun. I just bought the CZ P-01, and am impressed at the light weight and small size in a NATO spec handgun. They are worth checking out.
