View Full Version : Bulk 7.62x39mm non magnetic tipped ammo
Anybody have any idea as to where else I can purchase bulk 7.62x39mm non magnetic tipped ammo for my SKS at cheap bulk prices? The indoor range where I can shoot it does a magnet test on all rifle ammo. The regular Wolf, Silver/Brown Bear and most surplus ammo does not pass the magnet test. I know that at least one place OMC has Wolf ammo in the yellow and black box that they say is not magnetic tipped. (see link below) www.outdoormarksman.com/p...ts_id=1034
Thanks....mack

Ok I will risk appearing to be uneducated.
Magnetic tips???
My son has a Russian SKS and we have shot Wolf, mil surplus & Winchester when some nit-wit @ wally world marked down Winchester soft points to $2 a box of 20. The military stuff, & if I remember correctly, Wolf was steel cased. Winchester however was brass & boxer primed, but magnetic tipped??
Enlighten me, & what or how do the ranges test the ammo for or with a magnet.

I believe they are looking for steel-jacketed or steel-cored bullets, not necessarily magnetic (although I suppose you could magnetize them).
I imagine they're a bit rough on the backstops.

MikeG you are correct...According to the range management.....they are rough on the backstops, create sparks and may ricochet. They have a magnet at the sign in desk and touch it to the tips of the rifle ammo. If it sticks or picks up the round no go. I did the magnet test myself at different stores where I can get Wolf ammo....the magnet will stick/pick up the round. Unfotunately, this is the only range (indoors) that allows you to shoot rifles, shotguns (slugs only)etc...as long as it's not steel core, tracer, incindiary, or armor piercing.
