My fiancee and I are soon to go on our first "piggy" hunt, she has a .243win and I have a .270win. I was wondering what types of bullets to use, I am thinking Nosler Partition, or something similar, so they don't just bounce right off the hogs and really get them riled.

Or are the cor-lokt/powerpoint bullets I use at the range good enough? Or is there something else we should use?

Thanks.

You should be good-to-go with the PPs or CLs. I'd be sure to shoot as heavy a bullet as possible (100-gr. for the .243 and 150-gr. for the .270), though.

Also, keep in mind that anatomically the heart of a pig is significantly forward when compared to a deer or antelope. It's basically right between the shoulders.

They aren't too hard too kill, though...usually. :D

as long as your not hunting with a Ballistic tip out of the .243 you will be fine ...they fall over pretty easy :D don't try for a heart shot! it is super!!! low in the chest cavity. just take out both longs through the shoulders and they will go to sleep! out of the .243 Part.....would be a good choice you will get good penetration with them. out of the 270 even Ballistic tips will work fine ...it when you start pushing Ballistic tips SUPER!!! fast is when the explode on impact...and with a 270Win you will not have that problem. Good Luck and safe Hunting Keith :)

what about shooting them in the ear? I've heard thats a good place to do it also.

Cor-Lokts have worked fine in my .257, .250 Savage, and .338 Win. I know a guy who shot hundreds of pigs with them in a .30-06. Can't imagine any problems.

Partition is never the wrong choice.

Head shots - if you can make the shot (out of a stand, over bait, and it isn't pitch-dark) - sure.

Otherwise, get the heaviest bullets for the caliber you can find, and try to break one shoulder.

Good luck.

The winchester 130gr pp in the 270win factory load is all you will need for those pigs, have dropped plenty of game with them, pigs and goats included. The 243 can be found wanting on decent pigs, especially the large bruts here in Aust, i'd just use the 270.
