I've been given this military rifle by an old friend who found a couple of him on his travels. I've shot it, and it soots well. I need the magazine for it though. Does anyone have one or know where I could get one? I've included a couple snapshots of the gun itself.

What can you tell me about this gun? I understand that they are pretty common up here in Canada.

Don't see any pictures, but the M-42 makes me think it is an AG42, AKA Llungmann. Great rifles, very accurate. If you reload for it, stay away from the slower powders that do best in the 6.5x55 bolt guns. Those powders will make your ejected brass almost as dangerous as the bullet, and throw them almost as far! I load AA2520 for mine, and any powder of the same relative quickness will work as well, most likely.
I have seen magazines and parts advertised at SARCO, and Numrich (Gun Parts Corp) has some parts as well. I believe magazines from the Hakim will fit and function in the AG42. The Hakim is an Egyptian version in 8x57.

Thanks, here are the pics. Can anyone tell me if the Hakim mags will function in this rifle?? Any other info on this gun, i.e. origin, manufacturer, model, datae of service, and even calibre (although I THINK it's 6.5x55 Swede) would be appreciated.

Try Western Gun Parts in Edmonton first and avoid the hassle at the border.

Don't remember if the Llungmann has that brake or not...mine hasn't been out of the safe in some time! Everything else looks like a Llungmann, though. I checked SARCO, Numrich, and Marstar...didn't find any magazines. I hate people who remove and loose magazines! When I get a chance, I'll see if the Hakim magazine will work.

My recommendation on powder to use in reloading?

IMR4064.

Though the muzzle brake tends to be a touch more effective with IMR4350.

Yes, you definitely have an AG42B Ljungman. The muzzlebrake does belong there, and also yes, a Hakim mag will work (I have one of each rifle and the mags interchange) As to ammo, two things: First, reloading for a Ljungman is a tad tough as these rifles have a tendency to bang the empty off the side of the action and this puts a crease in the case mouth. I bought a replacement ejector for mine and tweaked that to lessen the damage to brass. I generally feed mine with brass that I don't plan to use much more, though with 6 to 8 buck a box Euro-spec ammo now it's not too much to purchase for it. Second, be sure the sight is set for the spitzer ammo if you are using that. If you look on the rear sight knob, just to the left of the number window you'll either see a pointed bullet or a roundnose. That will tell you what you're set up for. Do not worry if you have it set for the other bullets, as the sight disassembles by pulling the wire loop on the front of the knob out and you can then turn it over for the preferred sight calibration. Good luck and enjoy, as these rifles will sure shoot

Did you ever get a chance to check to see if the Hakim mag fit the AG42? I'm still looking for that mag.
