I have been discussing getting a new barrel for my Rossi Puma 454 with Gary Reeder and LJ Kovach about the 410 GNR and I have been impressed.
According to LJ at Cartridge Performance Engineering, "The 255 grain bullet from the 410 provides the same penetration as a 300 grain bullet from the 454 Casull. The big difference is recoil. I believe I’m more jaded to recoil than most, but I sold my 10” 454 Casull Encore because of its violent recoil. The 410 in the same barrel length is very pleasant to shoot."
I like the idea of that carbine with a little less recoil, but still using a bullet with a high SD.
So, what do you all think about the possibility of doing this? Any suggestions to do the work? Thnaks for your time, LIV

LIV...
No input on the 410GNR.
I have seen and shot some of Gary's work though, and was very impressed.
If you do it, let us know how it works out.

Glad to hear that I am not the only one who has spent many hours trying to fix what aint broke.
I love that Puma Carbine, I just want to see what the limits are for less recoil and flatter shooting in that platform.
What would be the best is to get a takedown model 92 with the conversion barrel so that you could use 454 or 410 if you chose to and could store the whole deal in a nice little package.
Probably just dreamng there too, but dreams are free.

I have not given up on it yet. Bigboredan told me that he has the dies and a reamer for it, I am just trying to get more information on it before I make a decision. Bigboredan called the cartridge a 358 DMM.
Lot's more information out there about the 410 GNR, and out of the 2 the 410 GNR is much more suited towards a revolver should I decide to get one to go with the rifle. Still in the decision phase and trying to gather more information. Gary Reeder has been a great help with information and I have not heard anything but great reviews of his work.
He can convert a Model 92 to 410 GNR for between $500-600. Gotta save some pennies if I do that, but it is very tempting. His turn around time is pretty decent, which is a bonus. He thinks that it could be done in 6-8 weeks.
SHOOT, Are you thinking about the 358 DMM, or do you know anyone who has experience with one? Take CAre, LIV

I was hoping you'd be the guinea pig :D. I can definately see the utility of the round as a great all-around deer gun (in a carbine, I wouldn't need the wheelgun). It should shoot flatter, kick less and still carry plenty of payload. Bullet selection is WAY better in 358 vs. 410. I personally think we don't need the energy of the 454 unless we hunt BIG critters. It also seems like an easy enough conversion, especially if Bigboredan would loan or rent his reamer and since 357 Mag barrels should be easier to come by. Seems to me you might be able to get away with a 2-step sizing process using a 357 and 454 die and avoid the need for custom dies. If it works for you'd, I'll gladly be 2nd in line ;)
