What's the difference between the SiGArms P229 and P228? I'm looking for a 9mm I can take to the range and keep for defense. I've shot the Beretta 92, Glock 17, and Glock 19. I really liked the Glock 19...simple and compact. That being said, what other simple and compact 9mm's should I be considering? I like how the P229 or P228 look on paper, but how do they shoot? How do they compare? And back to my original question, what's the difference? Thanks!

I own a 229 chambered in 40 S&W which is an all around excellent cartridge with a number of uses... self defense, plinking, hunting sidearm for medium to small critters... i also have a Bar-Sto drop in barrel chambered in 357 Sig. makes it very convenient for a 2 in 1 gun.
small framed gun but difficult to conceal unless you have a larger frame... of which i don't. small grip fits my hands well though. extremely easy to take down and clean. functions flawlessly and i have well over 10,000 rounds through it. never have had a failure to feed or extract though some of the first remington UMC ammo i put through it was hoaky and slow to feed... i handload all of my ammo for it now... feeds anything i put to it... with some bluedot and 155gr gold dots i can shoot free hand into a 2 inch group (10 rounds) at 25 feet with the 40. I am still fiddling with the 357 but factory ammo performs bout the same as my 40 handloads.
I have never shot a 228 therefore i cannot comment on one.
i agree sigforum is THE PLACE to learn all you want to know bout these firearms.
Respectfully,
Jamie
