I may be seen as ecentric or odd for the idea I have for one of my Old Yugo m48 (or K98) stocks. I pondered the thought of rebarreling my old yugo but came to an alternative. I thought about buying a new Mauser type barreled action perhaps a charles Daly or even a CZ or Ruger and dropping it in into one of my Yugo m48 or German k98 stocks (depnding which one "might" be workable). I like the old military rifle look and would be happy to use a new mauser with true old school looks for hunting. Now, i am no gunsmith but experienced with woodworking and if the holes match up, i thought i could sand and fill in to make it a perfect fit..

I wish i know someone who owned a modern Mauser action so I can give them a test try on my stocks. I'm considering a Chalres Daly Mauser but chances are the dimensions may be totally off and I may be very nieve to say Charles Daly Yugo made barreled action might just fit my old Yugo m48 stock ( with some modification). Has at least one person out there thought of this and actually gave it a try?

The 98 stocks should be very close (will need to cut bolt handle clearance, and probably around the trigger), but the 48s are a bit shorter action.

A commercial Mauser action may have some different dimensions and the Kar98k stock might be a better fit than a Yugoslavian Model 48 stock. How would you secure the rear of the upper handguard since a Kar98k action seats the handguard under a rim at the front of the rear sight base? I am sure it can be done, but you may have to use some improvisations. Good luck. All the best...

Well, if the K98 wont work, the Yugo 48 stock is my first try. I can easily carve out the needed shape and sand down to a good fit "IF" my idea will actually function on a new commercial Mauser. If one of my pals owned a Mauser action rifle, I would ask them if I can trial fit it.
