Okay I think i've finally decided on what I want to get when i carry concealed, I really like the Glock 30, nice big .45 round, and 9 of them. Plus its small and lightweight. Any objections? Things i should be concerned with? Also another quick question, I'm considering either an inside the pant holster or an ankel holster, both ofwhich seem kind of iffy to me, the inside the pant holster doesn't seem too comfortable i mean ur sitting on it, and the ankle holster doesn't seem like it would stay up. How do u guys carry?

edit: okay its between the Glock 30 and the Colt Defender...... but i've heard the compact 1911's have problems sometimes. What say you?

I think an ankle holster has no practical purpose other than for a back-up gun as in a second gun carried at the same time as the primary weapon. For it to be used as the primary weapons means of carry you are basically asking your would be assailant to hold on while you manuever youself as if you are going to tie your shoes while he watches . Not the position i wan't to be in . Carrying a gun on your person all day ,every day is cumbersome and not totally confortable regardless of placement . Your primary concern is accessability in the heat of a situation . I'm not an everyday carry guy, but the few times i felt a bonafied need employ a left handed cross draw holster (I'm right handed ) . This is the type that a left hander would have on a belt just right side of his navel with the but of the gun canted toward his left side . What I do is slide the rig around to the right until it is essentially behind me with the butt of the gun canted towards my right hip. This allows a very convincing (" Here for the love of God!!... Take my wallet!! .. Just don't hurt Me!!) draw . It also leaves your hand in close proximity of your wallet if The "would be" produces a gun of his own and you need to give it up (the wallet) to either end the confrontation or stall him . After all if you are already looking into the muzzle of a gun you have already lost that showdown , at least give Him (O.K. , could be a Her I suppose? ) the chance to be distracted by the wallet in some way to give yourself an upper hand .

I used to carry a Glock 30. I used a Galco Summer Comfort IWB holster. You're not really sitting on it, you're leaning on it. I carried at about the 3:30 position and it really wasn't that bad when sitting. That was back when I was worried about the "stopping power" isue. Now I carry a SIG P-239 in .357 sig. I figure if I hit where I aim, I'll be ok. ;)

I still carry a G30. Every day. I would not recommend an ankle holster, as the fully loaded G30 will make you walk like Pegleg Pete. You could probably wear an ankle weight on the opposite ankle for balance. Only kidding! I carry mine in a custom Inside the Waistband (IWB) style holster. I experimented with various positions and found that the most comfortable location on my body was just aft of the hip bone on my strong side. I'm 6' 4" and weigh 248, so a larger handgun is somewhat easier to conceal. I also wear either an untucked Polo, Tommy Bahama, or T shirts, or banded polo shirts. Living in FL allows for a somewhat more relaxed dress code than other locales, and assists in concealing hardware. At the beach I carry either a Smith M640 or an M335, literally in my shorts. I would also recommend getting the G30 magazines with extensions. They allow one more round in the mag giving 11 total (10+1), but they also aid tremendously in controllability during high stress rapidfire activities.

A Glock 30 is a pretty hefty chunk of gun when loaded with 10 45 ACPs. I had one and sold it when I realized that the guns balance shifted with every shot. It was slightly bottom heavy and balanced okay when fully loaded, but as I fired it, it quickly became top heavy, and wanted to tip over sideways as it ran lower on ammo. I hated that, and traded it off for a similar sized gun in 45, a lightweight Commander. The G30 is definitely NOT an ankle holster type gun.

I have a Beretta 96g elite 2 in .40, never used a 9000, have you looked at a glock 29. Its sub compact and is chambered in 10mm. Its a blast to shoot, very small, but well ballanced. The 10mm provides lots of power.I've heard that glocks in .45 have had poblems with blowing up, may or may not be true.

I too have decided on a Glock 30 to replace my old wheel gun. What I do now (with the rossi .38sp wheelgun) is place it in an uncle mikes inside the belt holster, then instead of wearing it inside the belt, I clip it INSIDE my jeans pants pocket and then cover with my pull over shirt. works for me (I hope it also works with the glock, only with another similar holster)

I hope you get that to work, but my Glock 30 is a little big for my jeans pocket.

I carry a Glock 36 every day in an inside the pants holster. The 36 is slimer than the 30 and weighs less fully loaded. This is important in an inside pants holster.I wear a Tshirt tucked into pants with suspenders, a lose shirt covers all. My Don Hume holster is perfectly molded with thin leather, only 35$ This is the 4th carry rig in 7 years the best yet ,I have been wearing it over 2 years every day it is perfect for me. good luck with your new rig.
