I love my little mini thirty and was wondering if it could be re chambered into the 6.8mm rem. I love the gun but for deer hunting it's about done at 150 yards. But with the 6.8 it would be good out to 300 if I can get it to group tight. Any thoughts thanks.

You would need at least a new bolt (different case head dimenisions between 7.62x39 and 6.8x43). Don't know of anyone making barrels for the Mini14 series in such chambering as of yet.

You might check with these guys. They seem terribly expensive to me, I think I'd rather buy an AR than pay these prices

You might try www.ershawbarrels.com for the barrel and www.e-gunparts.com for a bolt. E.R. Shaw may do a complete conversion for you.

I can't imagine that it will be too long before firearms for this cartridge will become available. And my guess is that Ruger will be one of the first to jump in with a Mini 6.8. But who knows...

The Mini-Thirty is designed for the 7.62X39 not the 6.8, I would talk to a reliable gunsmith about this as the pressures and pressure curve would be different, at least I think so.

Bump for an old post. Ruger now makes the Mini in 6.8
