New here but I've been shooting for over 40 years and I am a former FFL holder. I have been out of shooting and guns for about 5 years due to cancer but I beat it and I am trying to get back into things.

I have an Interarms MarkX in 7mm Remington that I originally bought to build a 416 Dakota on. Now that I don't live in Alaska and don't have the money to go to Africa I'm thinking of re-chambering it to a 7mm on a 300H&H length belt-less case. Any suggestions? Wildcats don't bother me.

The 7mmSTW (Shooting Times Westerner) is a semi factory cartridge that is about what you describe.
It's actually made by necking down the 8mmRem Mag. The 8mm mag is a 300 H&H length, blown out to a modern type shoulder.
The cartridge has been chambered (may still be) in a few factory rifles, and ammo has been marketed. And dies and loading data.
Might be a bunch cheaper than a wildcat.

Hello, Farm Boy -

A belated Welcome to the board and hope you enjoy your stay here.

You didn't say if it is a 7mm Rem Express (.280 Rem) or 7mm Rem Mag.

I have a Ruger M77 (old style) that was 7mm RM that was converted to a 7mm Dakota. The Dakota is based on a .404 Jeffery (beltless) case and is between a 7 RM and a 7 STW in capacity and power. A very accurate round in my rifle and potent enough for my needs. The Dakota brass is available direct from Dakota Arms and sometimes from Midway and Grafs.

The rem 7mm ultra mag would fit what your looking for, everything the 7mm stw is without the belt.

kdub,
Rem Mag, if it was a 280 I probably would keep it that and give it to my daughter to hunt with. She keeps eying my 284.
Thanks, I'll look into the Dakota, I have a 416 Dakota in the works.

71cowboys,
Thanks, I'll consider the Ultra Mag too.

I've been out of touch on gun stuff since '99 so I have some catching up to do. I am cancer free now so things are looking good.

Congrats on beating the big C, Farm Boy -

My paternal side of the family has a strong history of it and all us siblings have had it to one degree or another. My older brother passed away a couple years ago from it, so needless to say, I keep a close eye along with my doctors. Had prostrate cancer a few years back, but got that cleared up with isotope seed implants.
