I have a couple of questions about this old fellow:

First, is there any pressure concern when using standard commercial, or published reloading data? My understanding is that the .30-06 has pretty low pressure loadings but I am just learning about the 760 and don't know just how strong its action is.

Second, does anyone still make a receiver sight for the 760?

Thanks,
Fred

Have used these rifles since I was a wee fellow. Never had a problem using factory ammo. Have tried out some hotter reloads through also with no problems.
I you go out and load 4 grains over max or something else extremely stupid you might lock the action up or blow it up...that would occur with any rifle.
I have found them to be reliable and accuracy is on par with most bolts. Just dont load 5 cartridges in the magazine...it is designed for four.
I dont know of a peep expresly designed for this rifle. I would call the custom shop at Cabela's...they might know. I do know that Ashley makes a ghost ring that will fit on existing scope mounts. It is detachable too. That is probably a better option IMHO.
There are a lot worse rifles out there than the 760.

Best wishes

The 760 will handle any commercial loads and any "reasonable" handloads just fine. Some folks choose to use samll base dies for auto and pump rifles because they have a little less camming power than bolt actions. I am not sure how necessary this is. FL resizing with regular dies seems like a reasonable starting point to me.

Williams makes a WGRS (Williams Guide Receiver Sight) specifically for the 760. It sits on top of the receiver and uses the rear set of scope mounting holes that were drilled and tapped at the factory.

The famous Benoit family ("How to Kill the Biggest Buck of Your Life" by Larry Benoit) uses this set up on their '06 and 270 760 pump carbines.

Thanks for the info. I saw a 760 carbine in Alaska many years ago which appealed to me but it had been used as a "boat gun" and was in pretty tough shape. Just recently tripped over a listing for one in an online auction and bought it...

It's going to be paired with the Remington M-121 Fieldmaster .22 Dad left me and passed to my son for Christmas. I am personally not strong on optic sights because I tend to bang things around a little, and wondered whether a good receiver sight could be fitted, since that is similar to what is on the rifles Sam lets him use.

As far as the ammo question, I don't even know yet what sort of lock-up the bolt on this rifle uses but know some lever actions which lock up at the rear of the bolt can get a little "goosey" even with some published loadings.
