I am thinking about putting together a lightweight long range rifle and have liked the info. I have read on the 6.5 round. I would like a little more reach than the Swede.

This is the question...the 6.5 Rem Mag is short action....can I pickup a beatup 243 or 308 and rebarrel and restock it? Is there a better maker for such a project, i.e. Winchester or Remington, looking for an action readily available (like at a gun show)? I think my main issue is going to be the right bolt face?

I have built a 7mm Rem Magnum from the white (Interarms), but it was a complete action....which is a great shooter...but a bit on the heavy side!

I am thinking 22" barrel....probably around a 120 grain....maybe 85 or 90 for varmits...any suggestions on barrel twist are welcome!

Tips on lightening and stocks are also welcomed!

you might be ahead to look at the Remington model 673 Guide Rifle in 6.5 Rem mag. my Remington catalog shows it listed so it could be ordered through your local gun shop.. i just bought a 673 in .350 and really like it. mine cost about $675, and it's hard to imagine building one for less than that.

just my thoughts.
