some friends and i are planning a trip to idaho to go elk hunting in 2006 so were starting to plan now were planning on a drop camp but i read an article in outdoor life the other day that said it might not be such a good idea on going that route they said some outfitters wont put you up in a real good place because you dont pay as much so they dont want you to interfere with their guided hunts, my question to anybody is have you done a drop camp or know anybody that does or is their a good reputable guide out there where you dont have to worry about them taking you to a bad place to hunt i dont know if i trust thier references much because they might be one lucky hunter or friends or whatever none of us have the money to spend on a guided hunt so thats why were looking into a drop camp but we thought it would be better than going out there on public land with out being able to scout or check out the area first and you can get a tag alot easier through an outfitter

One outfitter I have heard nothing but good things about is Ken Smith. He used to hunt near Orofino and is now down south of Salmon. If he doesn't have what you want, maybe he can steer you to someone who does - he's very active in the Idaho Outfitters Association. His website is http://www.huntingidaho.com .
