Venturino ain't gonna cut it for me at Rifle/Handloader. Ross could take something I had no interest in, and make me want one. Has anyone got a line on Seyfrieds whereabouts?

I think he's writing for The Double Gun Journal, but he's written there for awhile. I haven't heard of any other magazines or publishers picking him up since leaving the Wolfe family.

Maybe he'll have time to write a book now?

I sure hope he's putting together a book or two! I've been reading Seyfried's work since the '80's and have always been impressed by his candor and real world experience. Also, inspite of (or maybe because of) his many accomplishments he still stays open to new ideas and provenance through testing not just speculation.

Ross, please don't leave us now!

Thanks,
Russ

I too will miss Seyfrieds writing in Hanloader and Rilfe.

One thing to remember about Venturino is that he started out writing about a lot more than just black powder firearms. His writing on the affects of twist on the .22-250 were interesting. He is a .32 Magnum fan, has written a lot on the .44 Magnum and the .25-06. Without Shooting Times "dumbing down" his writing we all may be both surprised.

Venturino is now in American Handgunner, as well as Rifle/Handloader. He's definitely shifted gears, not the same old Mike....

Big Mike is a wealth of knowledge as has been said , he has been in the industry for many years , was in it for a long time before writing in magazines ..
He's got the knowledge if it isn't "dumbed down "

He's operating a elk hunting ranch in Oregon. A friend of mine hunted w/ him there a year or so ago. Elk Song Ranch is the name of the outfit I believe. I certainly miss his writings.

I believe tha Ross is writing for the N.R.A. Publications. I am not sure the name of the mags I know that he does not write in the America shooter mag . Ross also writes in the Double Gun Journel. In mine opion he is the best, most knowledgable writer of all.

I seldom give credence to the "Word on the Street."

My conversations with Ross Seyfried at past NRA Conventions have been pleasant and cordial. Certainly his writing ability is a cut above the level we have come to expect in shooting journals.

Nah, he doesn't room with Elvis.

Elvis lives in my spare bedroom. :D

your'e both wrong,
I had Elvis and Hoffa over for B-B-Q yesterday.

Veturino's writings aren't all that bad, seems to be a knowledgeable guy when it comes to the older guns. His columns have provided me with alot of info on single action, and older rifles.

Ok, Mike needs to work on his style. I counted an average of 30 "I, Me, Mine, My" pn every page.

He appears very knowledgable but constantly referrimg to yourself is tedious.

I subscribe to Rifle and Handloader and read his articles with delight. But he needs work.

Would also like to see more Seyfried.

Seyfried is by far my favorite gun writer. I like Venturino a lot, but, for a while it seemed like every article he wrote he said "my friend Hank Williams Jr...". I always took this as shameless name dropping (look at me, I know a celebrity!). I'm sorry if that is not what it was, but that's the way I took it, and it always bothered me - perhaps more so than it should have. I don't think I've seen it in his newer stuff, though.

I too like Ross' writings. Like was stated he could take a caliber or rifle I'd have no interest in and make me want to check 'em out.

Besides my girlfriend says he looks good in shorts!

I am assuming that this has been covered before....but whatever happened to Rick Jamison? I know he was involved in a law suit a while back, but that's all I know.

I love Mike Venturino's writing, but then again, I am from the same county in West Virginia he is from.

The way he writes is the same way people talk around here. What is funny is that the down home, personable, me, mine, I style he uses is nearly identical to Skeeter Skelton's in some ways and I don't see anybody knocking Skeeter.
Maybe if Mike joined the Border patrol in his youth he would get more respect.
Speaking of respect, I have nothing but the upmost respect for Ross Seyfried.
Like Elmer Keith and Jeff Cooper, both of whom thought highly of Ross, Mr. Seyfried is oneof those rare individuals who walks to the beat of a different drummer. Where the rest of the world thinks and dreams about doing things, Seyfried went out and did it.

Much respect from my part.

Another writer I have not seen in awhile was a fellow from Ohio named Terry Murback, I think. I truly enjoyed his very honest and candid type of writing. I am glad to occassionally see new articles from Clair Rees now and then too.

Terry and to a greater extent Clair remind me a lot of Hal Swiggett, who in my opinion is the most underrated of the great outdoors writers.

Murbatch did good work. You could tell he was having a good time with his projects. He always went above and beyond what he would have had to do to put out a basic article. He is still kicking. shooting up the Black Hills of Dakota.

Here's a link to an introduction at NRA, which includes a link to Mr. Seyfried's first article for NRA Hunters' Rights. I don't see a date on the introduction or the article.
