Wondering if anyone is shooting heavy bullets in the 7.62x54R, those in the 180 grain range. I have a case of surplus yugo 147 grain match that does well but I'm leery of buying 440 rounds of the heavy ball without knowing how well it'll do in my 91/30. Thanks in advance for the feedback, Mark Kw

I have shot 200 Grain wolf soft points in my 91/30. They shoot good, really I haven't noticed much difference in that and the 147 grain fmj. (recoil wise, etc.) I know that the 147 grain bullet is alot faster.
Anyway, It should shoot just fine!

I have loaded and shot a 180 gr 303 British bullet in my M44. It did not do well but nothing has shot good in the thing yet except the surplus stuff. It is case marked nny 1976 but I don't know what the story on it is. I am goint to pull abullet on it before I shoot it up and see if I can duplicate.

Hornady list data for heavy weights (up to 220gr.) but uses .308" bullets. Depends on individual barrels, most 7.62X54R's work well with .308" jacketed bullets but there are larger bore diameters that won't.
But I will say theat the most accurate shooting I've done with a 7.62X54R has been a friend's, and he loaded the 190 .308 BTHP MAtch bullet. The 1:10 twist of the barrel seems right at home with these longer slugs.

Favorite hunting bullet in the 7.62x54 is Remington's bulk packed 180 grain .311 bullet for the .303. Every lot I have ever ordered and measured runs .3105, just about perfect for a .310 bore. I use it in my pretend M91/30 sniper.

I pulled a couple of the 147 gr match bullets I have and they measure .308" Think I'm going to slug the bore and see what it says.
