Where the heck is everybody? This place seems like a graveyard. I know all you guys didn't get killed last hunting season!

Welcome to Beartooth, Mac. This forum doesn't get a lot of use, but we have a few members that have hunted there. We also have a few more that have hunts scheduled this coming year or the next. So, hopefully we will get a few more topics and a lot more discussion.
I do have a question for you and this should generate a little discussion. What is your opinion for trying to get in and hunt Zim in 2005? Say, either the Chewore, Chirisa, or Lemco, Chete, or Omay areas? I understand that Mugabe isn't well and the country is getting into more and more dire straits. A terrible shame for what was once the "bread basket" of the African Continent.
It's also my understanding that some vultures are already circling Zim, meaning illegal safari operations by companies located elsewhere. Would you, yourself, consider a hunt to Zim in 2005?

ALYESKA, Zimbabwe is a touchy subject, in the Safari community. I believe you will be OK if you stick with known guys like John Sharp, or Andrew Dawson. I've been thinking about a Leopard hunt with Andy Dawson, but there are so many other places where the crap isn't happening, for instance Zambia's Luangwa Valley with Shwanpol&Skandrol, or up around the Kafuwe Ntl park with Denny Bird.

Thanks for the reply Mac. I've contacted a few different booking agents about Zim, also spoke with S&S. TCarr and I swapped emails a few months back, and he recommended contacting HHK which I will probably do next week.
My wishes for Zim is to get there before it is no more. So many places that were once considered hunting paradise that have either banned hunting for outsiders (Kenya, I suppose) or have civil wars going and/or, as a result the game has been nearly wiped out (Sudan, Uganda, Angola, etc...). I think I've read in your posts on other forums that you've hunted Zim quite a bit and I would like to hear some of the stories here at Beartooth, if you care to share them with us.
What is your opinion on HHK? I figure they are as deeply entrenched in Zim as anyone (well maybe not as well as John Sharp) and probably are well known enough to have some protection of their hunting areas from poaching by the Zim government. Would that be a reasonable deduction?

Dave, Travel agent Kathi Klimes had a recent safari with HHK. She told me that she and her husband had a great hunt. You can contact her at kathi@wldtravel.com.

Thanks, John. I have spoke with Kathi a couple times in the past year or so. I'm still trying to get there, just don't know if it will be in time or not.
