As a kid (a long time ago) my pappy supplied us with a single shot pistol with the hammer down by the trigger guard (as I remember it). It was great fun to shoot. Does anyone have any idea what that was?

I wish my pappy was still around to ask. I hadn't thought of it for years and now I'm curious as heck.

WetDog,

Can't address any single shot which could be described as having the hammer around the trigger guard, unless it was a muzzle-loading under hammer gun. What it could have been was a Sheridan Knockabout. The Knockabout was a tip up .22 whih had the latch lever located in the front of the trigger guard, you only needed to reach forward with your trigger finger and pull back to open the gun. The hammer was conventionally at the rear of the frame, they looked kind of like a semi-auto in profile.

This little gun was made by the same company, now Sheridan, Benjamin, that makes BB and pellet guns. They were available from the late 1950's to probably mid 1960's, and retail was $19.95.

I still have mine, and if you would like could photograph it and E-mail so you could verify if this is what you remember.

Thank you! I think that is the one.

A picture would be GREAT! It's been about 30 years and the memory is foggy.

Thanks again!
