I live in OrangeCounty,New York, which is only 50 miles North of New York City, and is a "Rifle" County.
We are constantly threatened to be relagated to a 'Shotgun" or even a "Bow & Arrow"County.
Recently, our local Newspaper, which is a Liberal mouthpiece, called for the prohibition of rifles for Hunting. The last major attack was 4 years ago,and barely failed.
The stated reason today is that a Homeowner had her house hit by a bullet. The Paper pronounced it as a Deer hunting bullet, but it is a short, fat bullet;probably a pistol bullet.
Another Homeowner is reported to have complained about a similar occurance at his house.
The threat is very real this time ,because we had two deaths amoung Deer hunters this year.
One 70 year old gent died of probable natural causes, but the other man was shot to death by a single bullet, and it is still being investagated by Authorities. He was hunting alone,in full camoflage. I can't recall anything like this happening before,in this County.
I am sure that the Local Paper will give huge coverage to this tragedy when some facts become available.
We are very proud of our safety record here, with rifles. We have far more incidents with shotguns then with rifles.
Keep the Faith,
Frank

Hope things remain on an even keel for you, Frank.

There's an awful lot of land around the Phoenix area that has been closed to anything other than string & sticks and shotguns - places I used to hunt with a rifle, BP and handgun just a few years back.
