I had an interesting encounter today.............I need to take a survey of people that have seen rabbits in Texas. What is the biggest Rabbit that you have ever seen in Texas? How big was it? And....Do you have a picture so that I can see? I will explain my question after a few days of posts so that no-one thinks that I have been on the sauce or shrooms or anything. I am going to kill one the next time that I see one.....This time, I could not get my jaw off of the ground fast enough.
I've got a 3-point (western) Jackalope shoulder mount on my wall - he was fair for a Texas jackrabbit, but not the biggest in the herd. Just the one that didn't move out fast enough!

Charles,
Saw one that I swear was bigger than my beagle once. Looked like 30 pounds! I guess they are mostly fur and it was probably not nearly that heavy, but it sure looked huge for a Jack.
The cottontails down here look normal :D

One of my old friends told me once that jacks will grow over the course of time to adapt to the range conditions. High grass means longer legs and ears. I've seen some bigs ones but they are a little like eating wild turkey drumsticks, there's not much to them.
