Also just found this forum and i like it and hello every one ..Like the thread says I have a 44 magnum marlin .This marlin is not new so there for no warranty it is a pre cross bolt safety that I would really like to fix . I have 2 problems with this fire arm when i go to rack the lever sometimes more then 50% of the time the leaver hangs up and doesnt want to rack is there some thing that would cause this ? i have looked at the lever and it looks no diffrent then my 1895 marlin there are no burs or nicks what can be causing this ?
And also every time I fire this rifle the lever comes undone from the bottom like its jaring open is there a catch that is no good or something?

The first thing I'd check is the little screw that holds the loading spring. It's about an 1 1/2" behind the loading gate. If it's loose the loading spring can jam the carrier. If that doesn't work, check out this site.

When the lever pops open it usually means the plunger latch on the top front of the lever is stuck or the spring is broken.
