I live in the middle of a 5 acre palm tree farm. You wouldn't believe how many palm trees you can pack into 5 acres. The property butts up to about 100 square miles of open space in east central FL. I just walk from the house to hunt deer, I've been in the stands and stalked a lot. I've seen lots of deer, all does save one spike buck. My wife has seen a 10 point buck, twice!
I'm sitting here 3:30 PM New Years Day drinking a beer watching Iowa pound LSU because it's the only station that comes in on my high-tech rabbit-ears antenna. The double doors that open onto the coverd porch/deck provide a good view of the back half of the tree farm adjoining the open space. What comes by....5 does being herded through the trees by the big buck. I thought the rut was over! I saw him for about 12 seconds as he snaked his way through the palm trees. The does (usually 2 or 3) sometimes bed down amongst the palm trees. Maybe the buck knows this. Grabbed my rifle and hustled out after them but couldn't catch up. Guess I'l be out again in the stand this afternoon......
