Is there any place to look to find a reasonanble priced 221 Fireball? I was going to buy one way back then, when they were available, but never got around to it.

It all depends on what you want. The Remington XP-100s are still available on the used market if you check GA and the auction sites. Barrels are also available for the Contender in a couple different persuasions. Good luck in your quest. ;)

No.........best you could do is outbid someone on ebay for a .221 FB barrel for a Contender. Good luck. I have a .221 barrel for my TC but I can assure you it was far from 'reasonably priced'. The center grip XPs are around but they are moving out away from 'reasonably priced' also. The best deal on a complete gun would be a Remington rifle at least one of their varmint rifles is chambered in .221 and I believe the Classic rifle from 2002 is .221.

I have to agree with the Contender advice. XP's in any condition go pretty dearly due to their popularity in silhoutte shooting. If you even do find one, it's likely that it's been re-barreled for 7mm br or one of the other silhouete calibers.

Get yourself a new contender barrel in .221 at Fox Ridge Outfitters. They are TCs custom shop. They list prices over the net.

If you want a great shooter, get a Contender barrel from Bullberry. My experience with 221FB in factory Contender barrels has been negative in terms of accuracy. As for XP-100s, of the three factory guns I have owned, only one shot really well (sub-0.75 at 100yds.) and they are so light in weight and poorly balance they are difficult to hold still on the bench or in the field. They are getting outrageously expensive. For silhouette shooting the half scales the XPs are great. Most 221s I have seen love the standard 50gr bullets (especially Hornady SXs). I recommend you spend a little more money and get a Bullberry barrel and stay away from Fox Ridge. The resale value of truly custom barrel makers (Virgin, Bullberry, etc.) is quite good.

What do you consider reasonable in price?
Bullberry and OTT have very similar pricing for the barrel you want, but if I understand you correctly, you want he whole pistol?
After spending $350+/- on a barrel and $150 to $200 on a receiver, you may just want to re-think and look for a complete pistol at a gun show or used rack, or www.gunsamerica.com.
You could give Ron a cal at RJ's Guns - http://members.aol.com/ronstcs/index.html he has a .222 Remington on his site, for not alot of dough, you could always shoot that for awhile until you get a new barrel that you want.
Good luck!
