Was in a gun shop recently looking over a used Browning High wall in 45-70. Been in the shop since 1997(?) to be sold. Asking $1,000. The wood is all beat up, it's missing its front sight, and has a (loose) Williams rear. The metal is good 100% blue. Offered $250 and was refused. While talking about the Browning, got shown a Winchester 9422 also for sale. Asking $250.00. This rifle seemed to have a laminated stock. Had a no-good scope on it with stripped screws, and was heavily oiled. I didn't handle it too much, except to look down the bore and dry-fire it once. It didn't seem to have any wear on it. The gun shop owner claimed the owner had not ever fired it. I was all dressed up and didn't want oil all over me.
Question: Has anybody ever heard of this Laminated stock 9422? If so, what's it worth in the continental US? I'll figure out how much more it may be worth Here.
Thanks.

Well, I'm going to answer my own question. Since I last posted the above I've come by information from "Gun Lists" January issue.
The rifle was called the "Model 9422 Wintuff". Was available in both .22LR and .22Magnum. It is described as a "plain laminated brown wood stock."
Value listes as: New-in-box= $325.00. Excellent=$275.00 Very Good= $225.00. Good= $165.00 Fair=$100.00 and Poor=$75.00.
I'm going to go back and take a better look at it and make an offer. With all the paperwork here it may even be worth the asking price if the rear sight isn't mangled underneath the scope. The scope is cr*p, as are the bases.
Will update.

The "9422 WinCam" with green laminated stock only appears in .22 magnum. Values listed are the same as "9422 Wintuff".

I never heard of the Wintuff but I can see where it might be an advantage in some areas. What does the rifle weigh? The walnut stock model is 6# without scope.
I wouldn't worry much about the scope or the rear sight. I put a Williams receiver sight on my 9422 and really like it. The original sight is in a drawer somewhere, if you buy the rifle and the scope has trashed the rear sight, I'll try to find it and send it to you.

Thanks for the offer Tumbleweeds. If I get it I'll also install a Williams on it. Maybe even a small 1-4X-20mm scope. My 1897T has a Williams FP with a firesight front and it is about 100 times better than the factory set up. I just meant that if the rear sight was damaged it gave me more room to haggle on the price.
I'll go see it this coming week.

Bought it! It is an a lot better shape than I first thought. It just had a lot of oil and dust on it that made it look like crap, but it cleaned up really well. It does seem like it hadn't been shot. There's no powder residue in the bolt face extractor etc., as far as I could see without dis-assembling it. Bright and shiny. All I could get out of the bore was this thick yellowish substance (old oil?) but again, no powder residue whatsoever. The scope is a 4X-32mm Wide Angle RWS model 350. Not the brightest scope I've ever looked through, (Leupolds spoil you) but it seems OK. The rear sight is fine. Only the Weaver rings have some rust on their upper halves. I also got a new soft carrying case with it. $250.00 out the door. Winchester 9422 model WinTuff, Serial # F703XXX. Anybody know how old it is?

Removed the scope and tried it out yesterday and today. Shoots well, feeds like dream, and is very slick.

Nice rifles, aren't they? I'd say you got a real good deal on a "new" rifle. Especially compared to the inflated price on that other one you looked at.

Weight is aproximately 6 lbs.. That's me with and without the rifle on a bathroom scale. Probably + or - 1 lb. Someone paid probably $400-500 for this rifle originaly and used it very little, if at all! For once I got a good deal!

Luisyamaha. I noticed your post on the site for the 9422. I just got a 9422 and the rear sight is trashed. If you haven't already disposed of it. I would gladly purchase the sight if you still have it available... I am also looking for a front sight hood....eburden@scfed.com..Thanks I enjoy the postings...

Ellis, as the sight wasn't trashed as I thought, I've decided to keep it,at least for a while. I'm going to try and see if I can get used to it. It seems to be better than the semi-buckhorn that came on my Marlin which was impossible for me. Check out Tumbleweeds above, who offered me his, and/or check out Brownell's Marble's and William's sights that fit in the barrel dovetail. I can't find the one that came off my Marlin either. Good luck!

What is really fun with these little jewels is they will shoot cb caps.(very short shorts) I can get 17 in my magazine, they are louder when they hit a tree than when fired, and the last .22 scope I bought was cheap new @ 13.00, which worked great. My mauser .22 bolt gun is accurate, but will only feed long rifle. Great gun! 94-22 is a keeper.

I picked up a 9422 in Wintuff last summer NIB for $300.....a sweet shooter and she looks handsome with her deep blue against the cinnamon colored stock. I hope your's brings you as much enjoyment as mine does !

Hey everyone, check out the Winchester Site........ This is the last year of production for the 9422! Hold on to the ones you have. The prices will go up at a very steep rate.
