Hello to all,

I find I may have some time near the end of Feb. and I'd like to hunt a hog somewhere in the midwest. I live in southwestern Mich. Can anyone recomend a place?

Thanks T.C.Berni

T.C.

www.bearmountianquest.com.

Take a look there. It's just south of Marquete in the UP. Would not be a terable drive. Greg Johnson is the owner. It's been arround for two years now. Brand new lodge. Good staff. Their packages are not bad either.
I have guided for Greg in the past while they were getting started.
They are in the process of putting up a new web page. Also have a web cam you can look at boars on any time.
I'd be more than happy to answer any other questions you may have.

If you want to try it on your own, check with the MI DNR - they have reported wild hogs in the UP and want to get them out of there...

There are some wild ones up here. They escaped from a hunting club a year or two ago. Good luck on hearing back from dnr. If you like I can email you the number for the dnr field office at Ishpeming and you can call them for info. Steve

Are you talking about the boars that got out up on Point Abbaye? These things were terrorizing the locals chasing them into their houses and cars. I thought they got most of them? I camped up in the area looking for sign about 2yrs ago but figured it to be a needle in a haystack to see one. If just a few got south of the peninsula they would be be trouble in about 20yrs. THAT would make the UP even more interesting with all the wolves, moose, cougar, bear....and now Russian Boar!

There are several places in the midwest, it depends how far you want to drive, and how much you want to spend. I'll list 3-4 places, just type them into your search engine, and it should take you to their web sites.

1.www.bowguns.com eastern Indiana
2. Sunrize Safaris Ted Nugents place central Mich.
3. White oak exotics eastern Ohio
4. Cedar Ridge Farms Fayette, Missouri

Never been to any of them, so I can't reccomend one over the other, however I think I am going to bowguns for a happy birthday to me[54] present in mid March to hunt a pure russian hog. Good luck in finding a place you like.

Thanks Mad Dog, I appreciate the info and will check out" bowguns". I've got one for you-www.highadventureranch.com. They seem to have the best prices for some HUGE russian hogs! They are in Mo. Let me know what you think.

Those are the ones. I kind of figure they are all dead too. Doubt they could make it through winter. There is a place south of Marquette, I believe, That advertises boar hunt on the board in Gander Mountain in Marquette. RDKNG should call there to inquire. If you do ask for Craig, He is good about passing on info. RDKNG, Did you recieve my email with the phone numbers you requested? Thanks Steve

RDKNG, I found you another preserve in Michigan. Its called Thunder Hills Ranch, located south of Jackson. They have a web site. I've been to a couple good places in Tenn. and a ranch in Texas hunting hogs, in years past. Just don't have the time or want to drive that far. That's why I'm going to bowguns, it's only 2 1/2 hr. drive from home.

We are not short of ranches that provide Boar hunts here in michigan. I live in the Charlevoix area and could drive down to Bellaire, up to Levering or Cheboygan. Less than an hour drive and 500-600clams for a pork dinner....:)

My friend has told me it's worth the money. He said ranch or no ranch the boar doesnt know the difference and it's still a hoot to shoot!
